Connected the Boss Br1600CD via a usb cable to my pc(Windows XP Pro.)

Nothing is showing up on my monitor pertaining to Boss files, therefore, nothing can be transfered back and forth. Called the main office in LA. They told me that the Boss must be turned on before the pc is. Tried that, it didn't work. Has anyone else run into a similiar situation, and can offer a solution?
Thanks in advance.

The BR-1600 may show up as a removable drive but still be label BR-1600.

I've had no trouble with mine (except that I don't use it enough to backup my hours and hours of recording : - ) ). You should be able to see the 'removeable' type disck icon in either Windows Explorer or the My Computer views. I usually have both the PC and the 1600 ON then plug in both ends of the cable. Are you sure your USB port on the PC is functioning properly?

Yeah, you should check that cable. What OS are you using? There is a guy who wrote a program that speeds up the tranfer too. Check this link http://www.vsplanet.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=001154 at VSplanet.

I am using Windows XP Pro. An icon shows up on the taskbar, but when I press it, it only wants to know whether to remove it. The person I talked to from the Boss LA office, could only tell me to make sure the Boss was turned on first, then the pc. Makes no sense to me.

The usb cable is brand new. Could it be a problem in the device manager? Maybe the driver is not being automatically installed as the Boss manual indicates.

I am brand new to digital recording, having used analog Tascam multitracks, and new to this forum. Thanks for the info, gentlemen! If it works I will let you know, and maybe it will help someone else who runs into this problem.

Try this, connect the BR-1600 to your computer's usb port, click on the Start button, click My Computer and see if the BR-1600 show up. The icon on the taskbar shows that a usb device has been connect, you should always 'close' a usb device before disconnecting it. If you ever used a flash drive, its the same procedure.
