I'm not interested in editing so much, just recording. I have pre-recorded tracks to sing to and just want to lay the vocals down. I was using Audacity and liked it for it's ease of use. Now for some reason some of the meters and settings are all out of whack and the Audacity tutorial offers no answers. I have Reaper and haven't yet been able to make heads or tails of it. The Help section of Reaper doesn't have any contents.

What do you all think are good programs for recording that aren't too outrageous in price? Someone told me Cool Edit is good.

Did you try reseting the default settings on Audacity?

Reaper's easily as easy to figure out as Audacity. I'd just keep working with it. Its a damn fine program and probably the best cheap/free one out there IMO.

I didn't know default settings could be reset on Audacity. How is it done?

I'll give Reaper another look as well.

Yea - if you can't figure out Reaper you do not want to go spending hundreds on a far more complicated piece of software.

Are you using a Mac or a PC?

Well, I just looked through my copy of Audacity and couldn't find any options to restore the default settings, so I guess you can't :(. I guess you could always remove the program and re-install it if you're set on using it..

I've tried uninstallng it and it always re-installs the same way.

there is a reaper manual, user guide, video tutorials, and a forum. all freely available. check em out.

Click on my signature to come to the reaper help chat, someone should be around to help you out

Also the forum is VERY active, you likely will hear from the developers themselves also there is a manual in the downloads section, VERY well written by a fan of the product
