Beringer's eurorack and eurodesk mixers

Relax man! Q is just one of the more militant (but also one of the more tongue-in-cheek) anti-Behringer mixer people on here. He's not 'someone' in the industry but he's learned how to get more for his money than you do with a Behringer mixer. That's all. It's an opinion. He's probably not explained because most people on here know his Behri-usage background already.

I doubt if Behringer owns one single factory in China.

They probably go to one of the OEM factories with a spec. and get a price and sell. That factory probably turns out mixers and similar for all and sundry.

The reason we probably hear more about the Berry failures is no doubt due to the number of units they actually sell.
(I own 4 of the Fu**ers)

possibly, but my experience of behringer really has been patchy. i've no doubt their problems are exaggerated by their high sales figures, not to mention their atrocious customer care.

We have four different Behringer mixers, all used for live sound, and all have worked without any problems.

I also have a Behringer FCB1010 floor pedal. It needed work when I first got it (many come unadjusted and uncalibrated), but has worked flawlessly since then.

Any pros/cons of these things?

I just picked up a 1204fx and discovered you really do need mic preamps for mics :D but it only has 4 and I want 8-9 (gtr, gtr, bass, 3x drum, 2-3x vocal). One thing that irked me about the 1204 was the effects send/engine/return had a noticeable hiss in it.

Other than Behringer, what good 4/6 bus mixers are out there with 8+ mic preamps with lower price tags?

Maybe someone more knowlegeable can comment on this, but do you need preamps for (especially) your guitars and bass? I was under the impression that they were mostly neccesary for microphones?...if this is true maybe 4 preamps would be plenty for you.

Depends. Many guitars are recorded from guitar effects units, some of which are line level devices. Then no preamp is needed.

Some record bass directly into the board, and a preamp may be needed.

I bought a Behringer  UB 2442FX because it has 10 mic pres, we're using 9 (3 drums, 3 gtr/bass, 3 vocals), and 8 post-EQ/post-fader lines out, and it was a floor model for $259. It sounds good, but we're also trying to EQ and effect as little as possible. With the effects sends turned up and the effects return turned down, the hiss is not particularly noticeable even with headphones. However, my ear for good mic pre's/studio equipment/EQ may not be developed enough to tell the difference between a Behringer, a Mackie, a Yamaha, and the like.

The other lower-end mixer with the post-EQ/post-fader lines out was the Yamaha MX-6 (and the older MX-4), both of which retail for about double the price of the 2442...and I still needed to get mics to help control bleed in a small space!

Thanks for the input pro and con, it's always good to learn the what's and why's of stuff like that. Searching the forum here, it looked like the main beefs with Behringer were (a) Uli Behringer stole Mackie's designs, complete with the design flaws, (b) higher rate of product failure, (c) tinny/thin EQ sounds, and the main pro's of Behringer were cost and bang-for-the-buck. Anybody care to add more to either column? (and will I need to break out the asbestos suit? ;) )

Well, I have experience with Behringer mixers and I can tell you I'll probably never buy another one.

The first was for our church, it lasted about 16 months and then channels started dying...no warranty, so not knowing any better, I picked up another for 199....forget the model...12 channels i believe.

anyway, to my knowledge, it's still working fine...so I bought a UB 2442fx-pro for myself....once I started using the line-outs for my MOTU, I noticed they get crackily and cut-out all together, so it has to go back, I just got it in December....

I don't agree that everything they make is junk, but I have had problems and will probably go with Yamaha next time, I have several pieces, (spx90, compressor, power amp, four track) and they are flawless.

I couldn't care less if Behringer did copy Mackie, I never liked Mackies and always thought they were WAY over-priced.

BTW, the FX on my board are only good for live, way too noisy for anything else...don't understand that.....

Seriously.

I am very curious where you got your information that Behringer was now manufacturing Mackie equipment. I own both a Behringer 1604A and two Mackie 1604 VLZ Pros.

Well I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I have owned a behringer MX3242X since they came out. I bought mine new from Shreve Audio when they first got them. Lets see, that was about 3 years ago. I got rid of a mackie 1604 pro for the behr and have never looked back. My board is in a smoked filled room all the time (however I do keep it covered when not in use), has never failed me, has no scatchy pots or faders, nothing wrong at all. Misterqcue just doesn't like behringer because he had a bad day with a board. So what and who cares. I own a lot of their gear and nothing has ever gone wrong with any of it. So go figure, like I said, I guess I'm just the lucky one. Bottom line is, for the money you can't beat their stuff, I don't care what anyone thinks. Misterqcue sure as hell isn't paying my bills or buying stuff for my studio. If you would like to though, drop me an email and I'll tell you where to send all the high dollar stuff you use. :D

I like my MX1604A. Never even hiccuped. I've had to repair both of my Mackies, and the behringer's seen as much action as both of them together. I like my V-Amp. I like the X2000 mic I picked off of E-Bay. Cable tester and DI box are great. I've got some Truth 2031A's on order. And i'm thinking of picking up a T1953 Dual channel Preamp.

You know.. I should build a 100% Behringer studio. Just to watch the cringing looks on everyones faces.

;) Apart from the mixers and mics I probably wouldn't argue with that :p

You should build a 100% behringer studio. That thread would never end and Misterqcue would be in flame heaven.

:D :D :D :D

Ya' got that right!! :D

Misterqcue

I knew that would get ya. :D :D :D I just love it when you jump in on anything about behringer boards. You remind me of this guy over in acoustic guitar forum. I own 3 gibson acoustics and this guy hates gibsons. So I f!!ck with him as much as I can just to trip his trigger. It's a gas.

I can see it now. Silver faceplates from stem to stern. Uli standing next to me for a cheesy photo session at the "U.S. Behringer" Studio. Front page of every Recording and Musician Magazine.

Misterqcue, join me. Together we can build the biggest Behringer studio in the world. Think about it. We can wear silver Devo jumpsuits to work every morning so that we look like just another piece of equipment. What a concept... What do you think? 64 or 128 track studio? With prices that low on equipment, the skies the limit!! You know you want the silver jump suit. Come on. Admit it... you've got a little Behringer in ya, don't ya....
