rolling stone gave satanas new cd 3 stars ... I thought it deserved 4 stars... then I thought who cares what other people think ;)

thanks again for your music

macle...have yet to listen to this new (older) stuff of yours...but got a laugh about the stars. Go look at my current thread. It has ZERO stars...!!! Beat that, sucka!!!!

onwards towards listening.

beautiful loser...

I can hear how you really milked your older setup, but you are getting a MUCH better sound now...all around,...gtr sounds, drums, and just a better clarity and definition. This stuff is good, but your Paris setup tunes, just 'smackle with macle'!!

I liked the vocals on this one. This song would make great demo...but your newer shit makes a great finished product. Yeah...this is a nice tune. fuzzy gtrs though...(like the 80's...ha!)...that's a joke....

The genius who setup our LAN decided that downloading content from the internet was bad, but it's perfectly fine for people to stream media all day long.

Honestly, I didn't know it was a problem to anybody outside of my firm :D (slow emails thanks to chris). Won't happen again.

I think my activity downloading homerecording.com artists alone caused my firm to recently block mp3. Now I gotta listen on my own time!

jaqcueline...

yeah...same thoughts about the recording quality VS your current setup. thumpy kick drum, and just a general lack of sheen. But, not to take away from a good pop tune and singing. neat to hear some of your older stuff.

oh..one last thing. as good as these tunes are, I think your production abilities have gone up several notches on the totem pole(like near the top) since these tunes. That was the first thing I really noticed. Where you get a neat leslie gtr sound, for instance...you use it all the way thru the song. In your newer stuff, you would use the neat sound, in a more sparingly, creative way, and not offer it all the way thru. Just used for special 'impact' areas that spotlight the sound...then you move on and hold the listeners attention in another way... More ideas in your newer stuff, used more creatively...I guess that is what I am trying to say.

BASTARDS!!!

(HEY!!! I've got an idea; you could just stream them and...............................................oh wait. nevermind.

:D

Nice as usuall macle.
Beautifull loser is Beatles like but I would say more Harrison like. Based on the guitar and vocal.
This could sit in amoungst any top 40 anyware.

You music is very feel good. Always a nice surprise when your songs come up in my mp3 playlist.

Oh, just read the whole response. I can to a certain degree understand why people who get little response might be jealous (hate that word) of macle getting 30 responses in less than a day, but...
He's such a brilliant and talented person, not that others here are not, but his songs are always superb. No matter how there mixed. And I don't mind at all if he gets heaps of praise. I hate to admitt this and bitch slap my face if you will, but, sometimes I just come in here to see if macle has done something new. You have many fans and deserve it too.

These are some great tunes, and it is pretty cool to hear Macle stripped down to the bare roots of recording technology. Still some of the best Roland VS recordings I think I've ever heard.

Your voice sounds totally different. Has more of an edge to it; less polished. I think I'm kinda' diggin' it that way, actually. What are you doing differently now? Or has your voice just changed?

Great stuff. I'll add my 4-stars. ;)

What stars? If it's says "Macle", I just download it. I know what I like stars or not.

Excellent as usual Macle. It's really good to have you around here; it gives me something to aim for. Not to mention that your "style" just really suits me, and you don't seem to be some kind of ego-maniac. Thanks again for sharing your stuff with me.....I mean us.

i couldn't get beautiful loser yet, bandwidth topped out again.

But I am digging Jacqueline. This sounds really pure...sounds more 70s than most of your stuff.

I love the melody..*love* the piano break (the piano actually sounds more real to me than on the newer stuff..)

Your voice sounds a lot different on this song than I have heard before. More "laid back" maybe...it's a good sound. You should go with that in the future hand in hand with the lennon style. This is very original.

All in all I really like the music...I think you'll do really well with the "stripped down" style, this is smoothe. The drums sound awesome.

Listening to it I can definitely see why you wanted to upgrade to Paris etc. Becuase while it sounds great it doesn't sound "like the new stuff". I wonder if that is more becuase of skill, or becuase of the gear?

What mics were you using back at this time?

Nice work man, always a pleasure. Personally I think you should re-record this song too...the melody kills me.

just reading through the rest of the thread - I think mixmkr is right on about your production techniques, George ;)

Also, interesting that Chess said this voice had more "edge", I thought it had less "edge" at least in the sense of being "hard"...but I liked it more... I think this is the first song of yours that I've heard and said "ah..that's what macle sounds like..".

hey put the max talking back in beautiful loser before i get a chance to DL it - i love studio noise...it makes the song!

I didn't care for Beautiful Loser that much. I felt like I'd heard it before, though I recognize it as a good song.

Jaqueline, however, I thought was fantastic. Very good, creative hooks, and much better production. You know your shit man. Nice job! I give it 5 moons. :D

hrmm yeah i didn't care that much for beautiful loser either. something about it just didn't hold my attention.

i mean there were some recording issues...but, i was trying to listen to it like "if they redid this..", i dunno, just not really "getting it" like the other stuff.

plus some of the lyrics were a little weird to me "beautiful loser...but that's alright.."

erichenryus-Sorry about the d/l thing, gonna have to check into nowhere. Thanks for the comments on Jacqueline. The piano, yeah, that's before I got the Gigapiano. Still not really satisfied with it, though. One day, a *real* goddamn piano! A Cd is the hope, if Wes would hurry up and get his record co. together! :)

jeffmarcomb-You never heard it, but you think it's great? How cool is that? :D I guess you mean you never heard the other stuff from before. Not sure if these are the ones I'd want you to hear first, since they are demos on a Roland, but glad you like em. I dug your tune as well! Thanks a lot.

jcmm-Hey Joel, thanks a lot, hopefully, you can check out Beautiful Loser, too, sorry about that (as usual  ) Thanks for that about the star thing, I guess I didn't realize that's been going on, didn't use to happen, so I guess I took it personal, but with the help of cool people like you, I'm over it! :)
Thanks again.

chrisharris-I didn't realize you could stream mp3s, so that's the deal! When I click on an mp3, all I can do is download. Hmmm. Gonna have to check out Nowhere...

mixmkr-Yeah, the star thing :o . Well, none is better than a bunch of 1s, I think. None could mean there's still hope, but 1s are like someone shouting "you suck!" On the other hand, what's the saying about love me or hate me, as long as you don't ignore me, or something like that...

Thanks for thinking the new stuff sounds better, cuz I'd hate to think I'm going backwards! I did milk that VS, I've got others from before that are as big as the new ones as far as tracks and strings and samples and crap, bouncing stuff...did you notice the reverb, btw, there's a bit more, which was interesting, I thought. Thanks for the vocal comment, I appreciate that, next CD, hopefully, I'll get an "A" out of you ;) (you gave me a "B" before, remember?, so I'm trying to improve...) Thanks very much for all your feedback, mixmkr!

Scott-Hey Scott, thanks! Harrison, that is cool, thank you!! Thanks for the other comments, as well, really really great, I appreciate it, especially coming from someone as talented as you. When are you gonna post another animation/video/song, btw...

Chessrock-How are ya?! Thanks a lot. My voice sounds completly different? Well, the chain is completely different, and I suppose I was approaching it in a different way. I don't think there's much compression, if any, and I think I was singing a little softer, more casually, because the mic wasn't good for harder singing. Only that last "alright" has the throaty sound, I noticed. Not much punching, just singing straight through, and not being too particular about off notes! Thanks again!

twist-Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that. It's great to be able to share this stuff, and I appreciate greatly your taking the time to listen to it. And thanks for not thinking I'm an ego-maniac (I am, sometimes, but usually, I'm an insecure mess...)

Wes-Howdy! Thanks, 70's, that's cool. I like the 70's, well, the early 70's. I like Elton John a lot, I taught myself piano by playing his songs, so that's that influence coming through, I think. Funny you think the piano sounds more real, cuz Eric said it sounded more fake  ... would really like to get a real one for real! As far as the upgrade, and skill vs gear, I think the gear definitely plays a big part, but I have been working hard towards a certain sound. Haven't got there yet...but, you know, like all of us, trying to move up the mountain...The vocal *is* less edgy in that Lennon way. The mic was an AT4033, which I think has a nice smooth sound, but I couldn't really shout into it, so the vocal is more mellow, laidback. I suppose it is a bit more me, so thanks, glad you like it! As far as putting the Max adlib back on, I would, but I'm too lazy! Maybe I'll just upload a snippet of it, and you can edit it on. :)

Thanks for all the stars everyone, makes me feel a whole lot better! :)

Sluice-Let me get this straight, JeffMarcomb has never heard it, and thinks it's great, you've felt like you've heard it before, and don't really like it. Hmmm....:p ;) :D That's cool, though, you know, I can handle it, I mean you can't please everyone....:( Glad you like Jacqueline, though! Thanks a lot for checking em out.

Wes-Hey, I am appreciating the honesty happening here (sort of ;) ). What's weird about the lyrics? I realize there's not much to it, but...

Macle

I don't know macle...i listened to it a few more times. Very McCartney...which is a good thing.

I don't think it's the lyric alone. I guess it's just "average" (don't get me wrong...I wish I could write lyrics half as good as you)...but compared to lyrics in Joke, or Buzz..etc, it just doesn't grab me as much.

Combined with the fact that none of the melody or the hook in the chorus really reach out and get me...it's all just "average", so it doesn't keep my attention as well.

i do like a lot of the guitar work in the song, esp. some of the electric stuff in the pre-chorus's and such. I can't give you any songwriting advice...but I keep wondering if instead of "beautiful loser"...if it was just something more random (that i would of course interpret as "genius") that I might like it more.

*or* maybe it's a Max song? the lyric might sit better with me coming from a girl plus your new production.

Trying to give you some insight here...but, it's hard to say you know? Some things you just don't like that much...which is fine. If it makes the album that will be like 13/14 songs that i am crazy about and one that I would probably skip over a few times. NOT BAD AT ALL. you're the man...
