hi everybody..
I am wondering what HARDWARE do most of the producers USE in order to make bass lines for all styles of HIP HOP music..neptunes..dr.dre...timba..and others.. or do they strictly use samples..?? what about bass in styles p - Good Times (I Get High) or snoop_dogg-beautiful_ or long bass like eminem ft Dido-Stan..

anybody knows??? any cheapest hardware that can recreate those bass sounds or do i need to spend thousands ??

it's hard to tell what hardware they're using as they could take a sound in a motif and with effects and all give you a totally different sound ( it's called "the" secret)
if you know a bass player you won't be spending no thousands of $$
one option is spending the G's on a Keyboard
another is using some VST's with your recording software

BTW Dre uses Live musicians i.e skills and abilities

L'espion Nior

that's right man : SKILLS & ABILITY

Good Times -- real bass played live, NILE ROGERS and crew
TIMBALAND --- bass line, played through ASR-10 (once again he plays the bass line) not sure of soundmodule

DIDO -- sustained note on the bass, not hard to do, hold it down
easy, the DUST BROTHERS I believe

There is no HARDWARE used, it's either a SOUNDMODULE (a dime a dozen to freakin mention) or an actual BASS, if you cant play it, sampling is an option, not a very good one, but it would be your only option.

invest in a soundmodule (TRINITY or TRITON or PLANET PHATT) all have bass sounds. But you'd have to know how to play a line to get it

Sounds (Drums and Basslines)

Timbaland uses the Korg Triton Pro and ASR-10.
Pharrell Williams/ N.E.R.D / Neptunes uses the Triton Extreme and Karma, Akai Mpc 4000xl studio,

Dr.Dre most the same as Neptunes but with the addition of a Roland Fantom

Mostly all sounds are ran through a soundboard for frequency adjustment. But if you want a clean sound off top... Buy a Motif 6/ 7/ or 8. It does cost a pretty penny but it is worth every bit. I am a Korg lover (trintity, Le, Pro, Studio, Classic, Extreme) but Korg sounds are geared for soundboard. It is a nice flat sounding keyboard. Motif has a thicker clean sound to it.That is why it is the best keyboard for live performances. Also, get vintage keyboards and midi racks. They are usually inexpensive and have many sounds that are used today.

You can spend a lot of money quick in searching for the right sound like I have... (a Le, Motif, E-Mu Procussions and Planet Phatt hooked to a MPC 2000XL along with G5 Mac based 002 Rack Protools 6.9 and Reason ran to an Allen-Heath GL 3300.) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I was thinking about going up to a extreme and getting a fantom, but I have to master what I have first because again, I could waste a lot of money doing so. Its is not so much of WHAT you have it is HOW YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT WORK!!! Besides everything that you hear from big name producers have their stuff sent to mastering houses. That is another reason why it sounds soooooo good!!!

In my opinion if you are using software for music making then all you need is a midi keyboard. almost any instrument in your soundbank can be used as a bass, you just have to be able to know levels and adjust accordingly. for example. I use fl6 and i use the vst called sytrus and pretty much every instrument in the sytrus you can make a bass out of. If you can master using effects then you can pretty much make a bass out of any instrument. Idk if i'm explaining this good enough so if anyone is knowin wut i'm tryin to say help me out. If you want some examples peep some of my beats at www.soundclick.com/deserteaseentertainment and listen for bass in the tracks a lot of them sound like something that would be labled bass but are actually not, i use a lot of high pitch instruments and know how to use effects to make it sound deep u know? If you know wut i'm sayin help me out haha

that's Mark The 45 King

but ehm, analog synths would be a good choice

Im not saying get one because they have em..but if you want a module that has some of the best if not best bass and leads...this is it...as a side note..you can find an atc for around 300-400 used....and my friend likes that better then the 1300 atcx....he also has a voyager and an se1x

good question....Simply put the studio electronics got satrted when they started fitting the original minimoog with midi, also they fitted oberheim, and prophets, and tr808.....so they started making there own products...with same design as moog...all analog with the behefit of being able to save patches..and having patch banks.Out of all the keyboards..or modules none has impressed me as much as Studio electronics. The Atc,the se1 and the Omega 8 are all analog sound modules.notice how the producers on the list such as babyface has 13 se1x.....Well just like the minmoog, the voyager..these are monophonic synths.so unless you record it direct to a multitrack recorder..you would then be able to use as many of the patches as you want...but if you use it with an mpc or any other sequencer by using midi..then you can only use one sound per song...so babyface probably has all those so he can utilize more sounds without having to record live..into a multitrack..also he probably stacks sounds..to create new sounds..etc...here is a link for a more in depth history on the company.

Sometimes its hard to grasp what certain machines are capable without witnessing first hand......these will make a beleiver out of you...

oops one last thing the omega8 has 8 voices...almost like having 8 se1 its not a mono synth...also people who own lets say a se1 and an atc keep both because they each have there own strengths...
