Legend in Own Mind
I’ve got the Audiophile 2496 and the SB Live in a 2.4GHZ P4 system and I use Sonar 2XL to record. The only reason I have the SB Live is for games, multimedia, etc. I disable the SB when recording so I won’t have any problems but I would like to listen to playback through the speakers (I don’t have any studio monitors yet). When I try to playback through the SB it sounds very choppy, almost like a dropout every other second.

I thought this might be due to the fact that I’m recording in 24bit but I tried playing a project I had recorded in 16bit and it did the exact same thing. However, music CDS, MP3s, games, etc. all sound fine when played through the SB—it’s only playback in Sonar that sounds like arse. I’m sure there is a setting somewhere in Sonar that would fix this but I haven’t figured it out yet.

Also, any other general advice about using Sonar, Audiophile, and SB Live together would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Actually, you can setup the audiophile to use an all in one card to play system sounds, games and your recording card and remove the SB all together.

2496 should work fine with SB Live, you dont even have to disable one while recording, I don't know about your distorted playback in SB live, but as stealth said you can use your 2496 for any SBlive purpose.

I'd say rip it out, but no-one ever listen!

;) Just kidding. But I'm serious about ripping it out. I had a lot of problems with my DAW with my Inca88 and SB Live/Audigy. I took it out and I was in heaven! :)

One thing that might be wrong is that the Delta is configured to use lower latency than the SB Live can handle. Try to set the latency (Options -> Audio) a bit higher...

What about my PC speakers?

I'm not sure how I would connect my PC speakers to the Audiophile. I guess I could get an adapter but the problem is both analog outputs on the Audiophile are running to my mixer (sorry, should've mentioned the mixer).

This gets kind of crazy because I actually have 3 soundcards in my PC (one is integrated). The integrated sound card doesn't have a Line Out jack which my PC speakers need. That was the whole reason I got the SB Live. I suppose I could get an adapter to connect the PC speakers to the mixer (not sure if it would work) but that seems silly since the SB should be able to playback.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on the playback problems in Sonar with the SB Live, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that when I get home.

If the mixer has an headphone-connection, you could try connect the PC-Speakers to that (using a 1/4"-to-1/8"-converter if you need to). With some carefully volume-adjustment it could work (but it's not the best sollution)... ;)

You dont need to hardwire the audiophile. It routes thru your motherboard without the need of audio jumpers from your cd rom, etc...
You can tie your pc speakers to your mixers outputs.

What kind of soundcard doesn't have a line out jack? How would sound be output from it? What motherboard are you using? I'm just curious...

It has a Speaker Out jack! It does not have a Line Out jack which my speakers need. It's an Aopen AX4b.

I thought they (Speaker out/Line Out)were the same thing, just different terminology.
