Audiophile 192 Routing?

I have an audiophile 192 and the software routing is non-existant.

I want to beable to record sound that the soundcard is playing, like internet radio or whatever.. anything.

How can I do this?

Can I plug the spdif out into the spdif in? Somehow i am afraid that this is not going to be good for the soundcard or is this possible? Please?

It was easier with the crappy motherboard soundcard and software like totalrecorder. Now i cant even get this to work for me cause the m-audio drivers don't seem to let it work!!!

Please help. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

You shouldn't really have to plug anything externally to have it record the onboard sound. Have you got the drivers installed properly? In the software used to record, have you chosen your soundcard rather than the default onboard computer one?

As the title of the thread combined with the info given in my post implies, the driver itself allows zero routing.

This is a routing issue.

The drivers are fine. I can connect midi to DAW's, DAW's to midid, the ins and outs all work fine. I can record a midi track in cubase or pro tools or sonar, and then bounce it down to audio.

I can record audio in throught he balanced analogue or through the spdif ins.

I can send audio out through the spdif or the analogue outs to monitors or an external recording device or an amp or whatever.

What the driver software wil not allow me to do is route the internal audio signal; eg something being broadcast from the net, to a piece of internal software.

This is something that simple software routing allows on PCI interfaces like Emu 1212m, or esi juli@.

My question is how do I do this: ie record streaming audio on my audiophile 192 without recording the analogue or digital outputs in an extrernal device?

How do I record the onboard sound onboard?

Is there some freeware alternate driver software that allows this routing that most equivalent PCI interfaces allow?

Or is there some method utilising the audiophile drivers that i am not seeing?

Or is there some hardware method (ie plugging the output into the input, a theory i am fearful to test without confirmation of its safety) that i can use?

Maybe i should not have posted this in the newbie forum?

Is there anyone who has actual experience with this soundcard who can give me a knowledgeable answer?

Please!!!!

Well, ignoring the condescending attitude towards me trying to offer my help, i can't give much more due to me never having used the 192.

I did use the Delta 1010 for a short time and when i was setting it up, it was done through the M Audio control panel which i assume you'll have aswell? On the control panel there's a 'Routing' tab aswell as a few other hardware settings. Would this not be your answer?

Sorry for the condescending attitude . Just trying to get some straight answers.

I suppose posting this in the newbie forum I should expect to hear the most obvious answers first. Although I am a newbie to M-Audio, I am not a newbie to sound production. I have checked these most obvious answers already.

Here are the screenshots of the three tabs in the control panel.. as you can see none of them are for routing:

So I am at a loss. I do not mean to be condescending, just as you did not.

Yet I would really appreciate it if there was someone who actually has used this card and the current software to record streaming audio. Or if not someone who can tell me how to do it anyway.

I wil love you forever!!!!!

Thanks for your help so far Tifstorey; it is appreciated!!!

No problem, i've found (and i'm sure you'll agree) the habit of these annoying problems are often caused by the most simplest things, hence the 2 original points i made.

I'll keep an eye out for any answers in the meantime, but sounds as if the only option you have at the moment is to hard route it.

There's a programme called Virtual Audio Cables (http://spider.nrcde.ru/music/software/eng/vac.html) which might be some use to you. Never used it so can't offer much help, but might do the trick.

Mate this thing looks like it could be exactly the kind of thing I am looking for.

Lets see if it works.

Thanks a lot!!!

This program does the trick. Now the quality of the recorded sound is not great at the moment but this may just be something to do with the way I have set up the program. I will keep experimenting, but at least I am recording sound!!!

This is a start. Thankyou Tifstorey.

In the meantime though it would still be great to able to do this just utilising the m-audio drivers, so if anyone can help there, more input will be greatly appreciated!!!!
