No difference at all.... the SE comes with a special case, an updated shock-mount, and the mic casing in black, but the mic capsule is exactly the same.

And are they both being discontinued? If I want a new 4033SE, should I buy it now?

They arent discontinued as far as I know.....I think the SE is all you can get at the moment though or at least its all that is being manufactured.

As popular as they are, I doubt you will see them disappear from the market anytime soon. Same mic....I have one of each and it's just like Bruce says it is.

They are discontinued. I called all the major catalog retailers, nobody had them. The AT rep did not have any nor could he get any. I finally found one so I bought it to have a pair.

Get them while they are hot.

I don't beleive they've been discontinued... they're still being advertised! And they're immensely popular, so I can't imagine why AT would yank it!

Just because he can't get them doesn't mean they've been discontinued! Your rep must be mistaken..........

PS...... I just checked, he IS wrong...... several places on the web indicate they're in stock, including HERE

Well, I've heard so many conflicting reports about this -- including a note on the UK A-T site that says the 4033SE IS being discontinued, and the same report from my local dealer -- that I actually called Audio-Technica in Ohio to ask what was going on. They said yes, the 4033 and 4033SE are being discontinued for the time being, but might well be "reintroduced" in revised form in six months or so -- at a higher price point. Yes, there are new ones still floating around, but the pipeline is closing, at least temporarily.

I think I'll go buy one or two.

In Germany, they raised its price by around $115 (last year it was €333, now it's €466), but AT HAS come out with the new AT 4040, which seems like a sort of replacement... It has better specs, but according to someone who a/b-ed it and posted the results here, it was less organic than the 4033...
