Does anyone have experience using these mics with various instruments? I'm thinking of using them for close-miking acoustic guitar, bouzouki, cello, violin...I have one that seems to work well when paired with an LD, but I'm also considering mxl 603s for certain applications.
I am especially interested in suggestions for violin if the 3031 are considered a poor choice...I am a home recorder (that's why I'm here...) but interested in good equipment that I will take with me as I upgrade from the VS880.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Sometimes condensors can be almost too bright on violin. It'll work, you just have to be carefull. I like Octava MC-012's on violin as far as SDC's are concerned. Ribbon mics would be my first choice.

I haven't actually heard them but I think the Rode NT4 is supposed to be a little darker than the MC012 or the Marshall 603s. Maybe an Oktava MK319?
