Just one stereo wave (click+guitar+vox). About 40MB. I'll leave it there as long as it's cool with NL5. He is gracious enough to host these files for us. I don't want to hog all his server space.
OK, I will download as soon as I get home. If I don't get it, it's not a big deal since it is probably the same as the mp3. I have a membership to soundclick, so I can log on and download the mp3 off there.

And I have to say, one more time for the record. I love what you've done to it!

Thanks! I'm digging it too. Hopefully it will get me out of the songwriting rut I've been in. It's really the first thing I've written (lyrically) in quite some time.

As for the wav vs. mp3, I've read that wavs are easier to line up in a DAW. Allegedly, mp3s often put a short space at the beginning that makes them more difficult to align. Whichever you want to use is fine with me, though. Realigning the tracks at mixdown shouldn't be that tough as long as we are all using the same tempo now. ;)

I want you to do an acoustic guitar track. If you can, using the same chord shapes I did for the introduction. PM me if you have any questions on it.

Just to clarify on the chords:

To my ears (I was never very good at picking things up by ear), it sounds like you are using open Em (022000) - C (032010) - D? (054030) or something similar for the verses. That's what I used for the acoustic part, just strumming the full chords rather than the arpeggios. For the chorus, I used Bm (224432) - A (002220) / Bm - G (320003) - A

Let me know if I'm close.

As for the acoustic part(s) in the final version, I will play whatever is needed. I was thinking that it would be nice to have the acoustic not come in until the second verse, but I'm open to any ideas.

You are spot on with the chords. I was playing them as arpeggios, and not the full chord shapes. The A was A5 (002200), but other than that, perfect. I liked the idea of having the acoustic come in on the second part of the first verse.
On lining up the bass, I will check it out so see where it sits on my software. I take it you started the click track to correspond with the four count at the beginning of my scratch track? your guitar starts on an 8 count, will that make a difference? It could sound cool like that in a mix. I will play around with it and see...

Mp3's add a little space at the beginning? Maybe that's why my bass line had timing issues! I used the original scratch track which was converted to mp3... good to know...

I did the 8 count just to give drummers time to get situated and stuff, if that's even necessary. One of the old drum tracks had a couple of cymbal taps before the guitar started. I don't know what BentRabbit has planned. The 8 beat count-in shouldn't be a problem, as we'll just clip it off at mixdown.

Well, if we are going to use this scratch track as the guide, then we can keep it in for tracking purposes. I am thinking to play a bit past where you fade out, because I wanted an outro solo after the last time you sang "I'm done with you", so I was going to play past that a bit to accomodate the solo. I was hoping it could start right before you sang the first "I'm done with you".

BentRabbit, if you read this before you track the drums, can you do the same? I was thinking of playing for at least 4 measures past the point the last line is sung in the outro...

I will post here in a couple more hours and let you know what happens with the new scratch track.

But no more harmony vocals, I promise!

At least for now.... :D

ooops... too late... :o
I just finished laying down 5 tracks for the drums and am porting them from my VF16 now... But a fade out can always be added when more stuff gets entered I'm sure...

I will be posting these to NL's server pretty soon (and then I gotta get to bed) :( I'll have to zip them as I think the raw tracks are going to be over 200 megs...

What the package will contain is:
Track 1 = Scrub's initial scratch wave file
Track 2 = Kick
Track 3 = Snare
Track 4 = Toms
Track 5 = Ride/HiHat & some cymbals
Track 6 = Cymbals/Tamborine

I'll let you know when it's up... :D

Leave it up!!!! There is plenty of room and plenty of bandwidth. :D

Drum tracks are uploading now... it's about a 100 meg zip file and ETA is just under an hour....

I need to hit the hay so I'm going to let it run... Hopefully there will be no issues before it completes :)

The drums are just a basic rhythm that I piped out of the TD8 and my DM4. I played the tracks with Scrub's scratch track in one ear and my own 85 bpm click in the other...

And by God... IT'S FUCKING PERFECT!!!!! :D

(OK... maybe 'perfect' is too strong a word... let's just say it'll keep the ball rolling...)

The file name is donewithyou_drums.zip

Nite nite all...

I'll download it later on. I am still wanting to wait until Purge gets his guitar tracks done to put the bass line down, so I can compliment the fills with what he has, and not step on him or vice versa...

Oops, going after that massive download.....

See you in the paper!

Cable modems are cool! That whole download only took about 20 minutes!!!

I would have been there a week on a dial up!

ooops...

I was just informed by the Rokket-One that the tracks include about 5 extra minutes or so of me getting levels and junk at the end...

Teach me to record before bedtime

Also... There's suppose to be a bit of a tamborine in the opening intro and behind the first verse... Looks like it was not included (musta been panned over in the stereo track from the DM4... I only zipped the left channel from that module trying to save space thinking the two tracks were identical...)

If it's no biggy, we can just leave 'em as is, or I can trim off the excess footage and include the 8 bars of tamborine and re-upload if wanted...

Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but after studying under the legendary Tracy Partridge at the Tamborine Institute of Technology (T.I.T.) I feel it was some of my best work....

"I'll be honest, fellas, it was sounding great, but, I could've used a little more cowbell...really explore the studio space."

Seriously, drums sound good, dude. One question: are we gonna leave 'em in mono, or will stereo tracks be available for the final mix?

Once my TD10 arrives I'll be able to bring stereo tracks to the mix...
Right now, my TD8 only has 4 direct outs and then I'm utilizing 2 more on my DM4... I could get a couple more out of the Alesis, but the sounds just aren't as good... :(

So, with only those 6 outs, I'm pretty limited once I start separating the tracks for the art of letting other folks mix...

The TD10 has 8 direct outs by itself... Combined with the TD8, I'll be able to isolate kick and snare, hats & ride, give a nice stereo field to the toms (or isolate them as well) and also provide a couple of stereo 'overheads'.

Per the UPS tracking Gods.. it'll be here tomorrow :D :D :D

*cough cough cough* hmmm... sorry boss... I may have to take tomorrow off... I think I have that 24 hour tumor that's going around...

OK, so it's on Purge now....

"I'm waiting in my cold cell
When the bell begins to chime...."

Stealing techinique from Hixmix is lame... :o

Downloading the drums right now. I will have a guitar track done by Monday at the absolute latest. If I can get to a computer sooner (I'm off work Friday through Sunday) then I'll upload my part then.

Sneak in and do it!

Just kidding, I can wait! :D

I was just peeking in here (it's Saturday morning here) to see if anything developed...
