i play cape breton fiddle it is a bit of a dance style with stronger rhythyhm than the southern style flat foot dancing..
but anyway i want to be able to play the fiddle than record again and play guitar with it. or piano.
accapella was an app for Iphone i heard but i have a desktop laptop atm and was wondering if there are any programs that do this?
i know ya can do it with tiktok if u do a video response to your self. but only last a minute.
any other software or programs i can use that are free that can do this without any research

Ways to do this are legion! But first we must look at the basics of what you want to do and what you need to do it with.
Sound capture. That means a microphone of some kind...how long have you got?! A simple'ish solution would seem to be a USB microphone but it is not quite that easy.

You plug the mic into a USB port. 99.9% of the time Windows (?) will find it and you are ready to rock (sorry! Fiddle) You will, as you say, need some recording software and "Audacity" is generic, free and about a simple as these things get....which is to say "NOT that simple when you start!" But everyone here knows Audacity and can and will help you.

Next...Sound Reproduction. People often forget this bit. Some headphones will be fine but since you seem to want to do "overdubbing" make sure they are CLOSED back types which keeps the sound in. You might also want to put the sound through speakers* and that is fine but Google "acoustic feedback".

Better than a USB mic at least for versatility is a mic on an XLR cable that plugs into an Audio Interface. Such a setup will be twice the price of a basic USB mic but will stand you in good stead if you want to expand your recording ideas. Maybe jam with a friend?

*A "hi fi" system can be used or some computer media speakers. The Presonus Eris 3.5s are particularly good examples of the type.

Dave.

Every DAW does thus - so just pick one - Reaper - Cubase - if on a Mac Logic or GarageBand.

For free software, you have Cakewalk by Bandlab or Ardour. Both allow you to do multitrack recording and are free to use.

As Papa said, Reaper is available, free to try for 60 days, and costs $60 to register, but it will keep working even after 60 days, it just puts a "nag" screen up asking you to register. There are tons of instructional videos for it on Youtube, and a very active support community.

If you have a Mac, then GarageBand would be your first step.

If you buy an audio interface, check to see if it includes a basic version of a software, such as Cubase LE. They are usually limited versions, but will definitely get you started with basic recording and editing.
