Just bought a set of 8.2's and wanted to know whether or not I should even open the box, lol...What are their strengths and weaknesses??

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue lights! I've heard of more than one pair frying because of that.
Personally I like mine quite a bit. I use a KRK RP10 sub with them, but I don't always have it on.

i had them for a short while, experienced a problem with one of the speakers and had it replaced under warranty. i bought some KRK ST6 while the Wharfedales were out for warranty work and i ended up liking them better. the low-mids on the wharfedales just sound kinda funny to me, i couldn't really get used to them.

i had a pair for a while (8.2a). i don't remember all their strengths/weaknesses but i can say that you can do much better in the same price range. art slm-1 (york ysm1) smokes the wharf 8.2a in frequency response and mix translation.
they worked pretty well for casual listening of singer/songwriter type stuff but not much extension down low or high and the mids were too forward for me. translation: no translation.

yeah i have them too.. my blue LED came fried right outta the box.. never returned it cause its not really a big issue, but .. i dont really like them i want to upgrade big time. They dont translate very well .. id say open the box though .. when i get something new i cant resist but to rip the box to threads. but if you have the patience then i guess wait it out and see what more people say about them

I put electrical tape over over the blue lights...
Other wise they work for me, you just get used to them or you don't. M-audio has a sub with a remote trigger that can send just a full range signal to just your main speakers, or a split signal with a crossover to both your speakers and to the sub. Just something I have been meaning to look into, once I get some more acoustical treatments.

I'm using the 8.2a's
I use the active 8.2a monitors, and they seem to have fair performance for a fair price. Considering my monitoring environment, anything more accurate would be wasted.

"Subway Tunnel"...That's funny...Well, got them today and I can say that they are pretty "punchy"...I know that they need some "flex time" to loosen up, but they sound "ok" to me. I understand what Zaphod said about the monitoring situation. I'm not going to hard wood floors or a sloped ceiling anytime soon. I just wanted an active set of monitors that would help my mixes translate a little better to other systems. That, I'm pretty sure, will happen very nicely. Made a beat this morning with my passive Alesis and hooked these badboys up, sure enough, I immediately found shitty EQ in my mix. Thanks you English masterminds........

Seriously, I mix in a 6' X 6' alcove off my bedroom. There is no way to place the monitors within that space to get anything approximating an accurate sound, particularly with regard to low and low-mid frequencies. So it's mix, master, go listen on a couple of different sources, make notes.....mix, master, etc...., repeat as necessary.
