Ya know, I've never really thought about the resale value of these amps. Figures it would be low.

yeah i might be able to get like $350 on craigslist...

not worth it IMO.

i cry every time

every time i go to a particular store hear in my town (which btw i hate the store too) i see a 12 year old kid and his dad getting talked into a spider combo and a epiphone special II.

i can not stand their amps. nothing on them sounds good to me, the cleans always sound over processed even when everything is supposedly turned off. anything in between clean and metal sounds shit as someone said earlier, but imo even the metal settings are garbage. to me, a good transistor amp can always cream a modelling amp. but of course....tube rules all.

so in response to the thread title...

I HATE LINE 6 ALSO.

I hoped this Amp Modeling thing was just a fad and it seems it is turning out way. BUY THE REAL THING and you won’t be disappointed. Tubes Rule for Guitar it is that simple.

Exactly

If someone went to you said I bought a Mazda sports coup because I wanted the experience of driving a jag but it's not the same you'd say "duh!!!!"

You want the Marshall, Fender, Vox or Mesa sound? Buy it. Save, work like Santa's elves, brown bags your lunch, hide money from the parents or wife and kids. For those who know the difference, it's worth it.

I'm not anti-amp modeling or line-6. Line 6's customer service does leave a lot to be desire but that's par for the course with a lot of businesses in and out of the music industry. As long as you realize the limitations or the opportunity to use the technology to push the envelope you'll be fine. (Personally I try to get the weirdest, screwed up, wildest, never heard before sounds out of my kidney bean)

If you're disappointed because you didn't get the "Brown Sound" or can't cop Jimi's or Stevie's tone well…. You shouldn't take a Mazda on the Autobahn.

My experience with Line 6 has been very good. I have used Line 6 amps and effects exclusively for about 6 years now. Let me say, there is an upside and a downside. First of all, it is very hard to dial in a good distortion sound that doesnt sound too weak. I would never use a Line 6 amp live because the meaty thick sound simply isnt there. BUT for recording, I use a Line 6 guitarport and I wouldn't have it any other way. Create a good tone (presets suck), layer it a few times, sounds awesome. I just dont have the time or money to record a good amp. Line 6 is pretty good at what it does, and that's all I can say. From what I've seen, the only people who are dissapointed with Line 6 are people who switched from a tube amp, or expect it to sound like a tube amp, because it doesnt. (Also people dont like line 6 because of technical problems like this, which is completely understandable. Ive never dealt with these problems but I agree it is bullshit) That's all, I'm done now :)

I'm in a Love/Hate relationship with Line 6.

I think Line 6 Put out a Decent Pod Pro, Flextone II HD, and some Delay Modelers.

I bought the orginal POD 2.0 and it would change volumes on me here and there.

I bought the Chrome POD 2.0 for my girlfriend and it would not only change volume but change presets within a minute of turning it on almost every time you play it.

My POD Pro would have some strange echos occur from time to time when I first got it but works fine now.

And my Flextone II HD just started doing some weird shit where after 15 minutes to 30 minutes of playing it all the sudden loses power and has to be shut off and after sitting for 5-10 minutes turns back on and does the same thing repeatedly. Its only few years old and is mainly a practice head that doesn't get used too much. Still has problems.

How they can release products with so many problems is beyond me.

I have an Ampeg VL-1002 100 Watt Tube Head that is 17 years old and still plays flawless.

My Flextone II HD has a pretty damn good sound compared to my Peavey XXX and 5150 Tube Head.

But the best sounds are when they are ran through a Tube Power Amp. Especially with a Bellari Tube Sonic Exciter.

But I think all of there products have some hiccups from time to time.

Glitches here or there.

Lately, I say Line 6 has gone way down hill.

Maybe a small spider 10 combo would be a great first time amp for the price.

But as for now and the Future I don't think I will ever buy from them again.

Dude - the sound isn't the problem - the sound was amazing. Keep in mind that I came from a Fender tube amp (just too small) and Boss FX. When I first played my Les Paul thru this rig, I was floored at how tight and creamy the distortions were, and how crystal clear the cleans were. It really does have some fantastic sound coming out of it.

The problem is that it crackles, and eventually, at least with the first one I had, that caused it to shut off and smell like melted wire. Now the 2nd one is going the same way, crackling when I play chords at high volumes.

One guy suggested the cab should be checked to be sure it isn't the cause, and I am doing that tomorrow - I'm willing to try it one more time, with everything new.

On the other hand, I do realize that you get what you pay for and that this head is relatively cheap. I just want it to be able to do what it says it can do, and stay alive while doing it. It may not ever, so I'm looking at all the options.

i use a fender hot rod deluxe instead of the line 6.

the only SS amp i would ever buy again is the afermentioned roland JC.

Tube amps are great and all that, but sometimes the Roland Jazz Chorus is just the thing.

To me it's a "must have" SS amp.

+1 on that. I've heard some mighty good tracks from chrisharris's jazz chorus (just don't tell him I said that). I lost a good bit of money a few yrs ago on a Johnson millenium amp. I traded it for an AT 4050 mic, but I still love the mic.

There's no one solution. 3 amps and a POD (just for guitar) and I'm still not satisfied...'sup widdat?

I like my POD(s). They've served me well especially the Pro but I still use 2.0 bean all the time. I've pushed everything from keyboard, vocals to acordion through it. Turned out some pretty cool stuff and a whole bunch of crap. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. Much like the upright piano in the corner compared to the Korg Triton next to it. Or like the acoustics vs. the electrics or the the Gibby vs. Hamer vs. the Ernie Ball vs. Wolfie.

Apples ta apples? Nope....make a good pie? Yup.

Peace chillun'

Maybe since I have a VEtta 2 I'm not on the Line 6 sucks band wagon. I don't use mine recreate amp tones of the past but to create new ones. Hate if you want but I ain't changing shit.

Fair enough, dude named Jon - but there is a HUGE price difference btween the SPider III and the Vetta 2. I would hope at that level they're gettin it right...I'd fucking love tha thing if it stayed alive too - I saw an review for it that said "no tubes required" and then played my Gibby thru it and it was insanely good. Then it died. Thus the anyone else hate Line 6 thread...

Count me in with the "hate them" crowd.

bottom line;
if you want a fender sound - buy a fender amp...
mesa boogie sound - mesa boogie amp...
there's a trend developing :p

It lets people on a tight budget get into 'the game'. Why can't people understand this? Some of us really can't afford high end gear.

On the topic, I have a Line 6 Uber Metal pedal and I've extremely happy with it. It's rugged, gives me the sound I want and hasn't broken let.

The Line 6 amps I've played on the other hand...

A guitarist in one band of mine used a Line6 combo for a few rehealsals. Shitty distorted sounds, a fuckpile of feedback AND it got buried by the band... Other guitarist uses a POD on to a Marshall tube head, acceptable sound, some feedback.

I had an unused Fender pro 185 (first amp of mine, ss, NEVER had one glitch in over 10years) which I gave to the line6-guitarist to use, and it works better, even as a solidstate. :D

I had a Pro 185! That thing kicked ass, and stupid me sold it to put the money towards an engagement ring all those years ago...( It worked out, though - she got me a nice Ovation...)
