All about structure

As particular as many Nashville producers and artists are about structure, the thing I always found amazing is that some really talented people would permit a manager or label representative to stick some horribly written song with little or no structure of any kind on their album with little or no resistance. It was not unusual for a producer to come into the publishing company I worked at and ask if the staff writers could "fix" a song because some VIP wanted it on the album.

While I know this is common practice industry-wide, it still gives me a chuckle when I see a top-forty C&W performer talk about the "craft and creativity" that went into making their album.

It’s all about $$$ at that point. That VIP has a relationship of some sort with a writer and is using their clout to do them a favor. The producer wants to maintain a health $$$ relationship with that VIP so they capitulate. Sucks really, but that’s the big leagues I guess.

I later found out that she hadn't noticed that I'd put the track on the CD twice!!
Haha. Morale; give what they somewhat expect :D

I´m pitching for the radiofriendly segment and rarly leaves the VCVCBCCCC formula. With some variations of course.
Furthermore I these days try to make our songs stay more and more current, unless the pitch is "60ish rock and roll song".

Do any of you guys have interesting structured songs?

I think my song 'Spain Six' in my soundclick sig link is pretty interestingly structured. I was pretty happy with some of the chord changes, though some of the other chord changes are quite standard. It's probably my favourite recording I've ever done. Too bad I did it on shit equipment back when I first started home recording. Anyway, I like it and I think its structure is interesting.
