Hey folks, I always feel waaaaay out of place on this forum as I still record on an old Tascam DP-02 with very little outboard gear, and none of it made after 1990 !! LOL
It's strictly a hobby so....it's about fun for me and my son..... not too mention I can't even turn a computer on let alone try to work in a DAW format. Anyway... I've seen lots of ' hacks' about home recording and I LOVE them because that's how I do things as well.... I thought I'd post this funny pic to see if anyone else does this ?? I have 2 guitars on one track playing different parts, but never together..... I have to raise the level of one sporadically during the song.... so this is my cheesy way of doing it !! Built in ' stops' so I don't have to be crazy accurate... just slide up....slide back down....easy peasy.
You can laugh at the idea... but please don't laugh at me and my ' low tech' approach to recording in 2026.
Jim

I've been planning to do exactly the same on my SSL XL-Desk console.
Riding the faders live, I'll never remember in the heat of the moment how far to bring up this or that channel.
So, I will pre-plan it, and record the spot with a magnet.

i did it years ago, with tape.
i've seen some cool looking faders before, that have little sliding arrows on the side that you can set.

but i work in Studio One 8 now, it's just not an issue with automation.

I started with a 4 track tape at home.
Recently got it serviced/repaired.

It was a simpler workflow but also a lot more frustrating. But it did make you work harder. No you can just freak 100 takes and clip per note. I still try to do everything in one take..... But love to be able to sometimes comp ;)

Biggest thing was the constant bouncing
In the studio we had an 8 track which was for then a super solution :).

Enjoy your tape studio its something magic.

Hi Frank, thanks for commenting, I always enjoy reading your post and learn something new even thought we work in a very different environment. ! The DP-02 is actually digital ( yes I DID step out of the 80's for once ! ) I use it exactly like my old Tascam 488 MKII ( I sure miss that machine ) cassette though . This one has all kinds of cut and paste and copy and all the other fancy things digital can do, but I have never used any of that stuff. Perhaps one day, but I'm stuck in the old school. I use the punch in and bounce of course, but other than that, it's practice, practice, practice until I can ' play it through'.
Thanks again for all the comments.... Like I mentioned, I'm a BIG fan of ' hacks' at home.... We should start a thread on it actually.....Could be a lot of good, low budget ideas shared.

Just saw a video on the tascam 24.
That would be ideal for you.
Can do a lot in the machine itself but you can also connect it to the daw.

I went for the x32 but also looked at the tascam. For working without a daw i think it's great.
