I recorded an accoustic piano on an AW4416 at 24 bit, 44.1 Khz. Dumped it into Vegas using lightpipe. When recorded the piano waves were between -3 and -6 dbs (in the AW). In Vegas, they distort and read as clipping. The faders on the tracks (used 3 mikes, recorded as 3 mono tracks) and the bus(s) were set at 0 db. No effects processing of any kind. Opened the wav files in both Cool Edit Pro and Sound Forge 5 and checked them... stats said nothing was clipped and read them at -3 to -6 db. I did not normalize the waves in Vegas??? what happened??? (I cut back on the faders and there was no more clipping-- so it was obviously not the wav itself, but why was there so much boost in Vegas?) Thanks in advance!!
