A few VS2400 questions

I have a couple questions regarding this Roland.

AD convertors are they a major step up over my Delta 1010lt's ?

How is the performance of transferring files to PC over the USB partition on it?

It appears that this machine is about as big of a bang per buck compared to going the PC route. You have your software, AD converters, CD burner, mic pre's
all in one unit for less than $2K.

It seems purchasing one of these would be a no brainer would it???
 
I have owned the VS2400 for about 2 yrs, before that, the VS840. I can't really answer your questions on the delta, don't know anything about those. I have never tried to export to PC anything from my VS unit, never had a reason. It seems most guys on this sight go the PC route. I started recording on a little tascam standalone unit 15+ years ago, the went digital with the Rolands. I'm sure someone will jump in with the advantages of PC recording, and I would never argue that it's not a great way to record. However, I have never had a problems with compatibility,sound cards, interfaces,latancy,software,crashes, or any other of the numerous issues this and other home recording site forums are littered with when it comes to recording on a PC. Even the Roland forums don't have a lot of questions when it comes to problems.

For me the Roland is a great unit.

It's good to see there is at least one VS2400 user here. I haven't had any problems going the PC route. No software problems, latency problems.
I'm a CNA and have worked on computers since the mid 80's so that might contribute to the lack of problems. I look at the VS2400 as another computer
with only one program and function in life so it should do it better that something designed to do a little bit of everything.
The biggest problems with PC's is someones always coming out with a new version more bells and whistles requiring faster cpu's and more memory, etc.

It sounds as though the OS Roland has been using has been pretty much the same for some time. I like that!

I tried ordering one from AMS but they are on backorder til the end of next month I guess that will give me some time to research the manual.

I read in there somewhere where they have a mic emulator designed to work with a specific AKG 2000 or 3000, have you ever experimented with that?
 
I have used the mic modelers some, but can't say they are good or bad.
I really have put less and less of anything in the signal path. I think the effects in the roland unit are just ok. The delays, chorus, reverbs..they are usable. The guitar patches are not. I know for awhile roland was offering a free monitor or free effects processor with purchase.

The deal they have going right now is a $200 rebate plus a free processor card a VS8F-3. From what I've been reading from your link it looks like there maybe a compatiblity problem between this card and the one that comes with the unit.

Anyway I'm waiting to see if AMS will be able to match Full Compass's price on $1680. I figure this on a 5 month payment plan might fly below radar of the little woman. :D

I usually only track on 6 channels at a time 8 at the very most and haven't experienced any latency problems. That is with 2 delta 1010s and Cakewalk GTP3. I just ordered Sonar 6 after spending a couple of days demoing it, it is pretty slick looing but seems a little slowing load cakewalk bundles from GTP3.
I may that it needs to be ran on a 64bit OS.

I know one thing for sure I'll be getting a VS2400CD before I buy another computer.

I've had a Boss BR1600 ,a Roland 880EX, and now a Roland VS-1880 and I've loved them all!
 
I have a VS 2400 and I have owned the Delta 1010 using Sonar as my software. I had problems with Windows so I stop recording on my computer. The VS 2400's pre's are far better quality. I have exported wav. file with no problem's so bands can take the tracks to someone else to add stuff or mix. The plug-ins are really cool. It has worked flawlessly for me for around 3 years. Love the machine. :D
 
I love my 2400. Ive had this unit for about 4 years. no problems and I am geting great recordings...
