I can do an 8-1 stretch on a guitar, barely (6th position would put your pointer finger at the 6th, index at the 8th), but on a bass? Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch.![]()

30.87 Hz is better than sex.The 5th low string is useless.

which is what I meant about being able to play E on the 5th fret. No, it doesn't. But imagine a hypothetical playing situation where you're riffing away in F mostly between the 6th and 8th frets at a moderate clip, and you wanted to drop a low F into your bassline, while still keeping all those higher notes you'd been playing in easy reach.
That's a hell of a lot easier if you don't have to jump down to the first fret and then jump back up, and as you said, why should playing bass be more strenuous?
You nailed it.they're just bored and haven't gotten in their daily dose of shitting on other people's tastes.
You nailed it.
Also, they're not bass players.
I'm not a bass player, and I'm still better at it than people that claim to be bass players.
"Real" bass players lack the chops to play guitar, lack the fine motor skills to play keys, and lack the all-around physical dexterity to play drums. Bass guitars have less strings for a reason.
