12 String Dreams

A 12 string is a powerful tool to record and perform with. Are there any 12 strings that you think are fine guitars?

There is this one. Everybody should know it. There are many like it, but this one is MINE!

or how about a Fender Hellcat! Why did they flip the thin string in front of the thick?

Hellcat is on the cheap side.

this one is really bad.

the Squier I'd stay clear of.

Go with a Dan...can't believe I said that.

330/6. I fell in love at first sight. Not a 12 string, but it's everything you think it is.

This is a J-45/12. I got this as a companion to my J-45/6. I got him about 3 months ago? I took it out of the case, tunes it, and haven't had to touch the tuners since. I play this guy every day. It sounds absolutely amazing. You can't go t wrong. Forget the price. It's worth it!

Gretsch 12.webp

I had one of these about 2 years ago. Always wanted an electric 12 string. I just couldn't afford a Rick. I would have kept it, but I wanted a Taylor. I ended up selling both, but I would love to have this one back.

My friend has a Dano just lke the pic. Plays like crap, sounds tinny even with the Lipsticks and won't stay in tune.

A Squire 12 string with P90s? That's a hard no. IMHO. As with any Fender acoustic. No, thank you.

If you already own the Rick, congratulations, and good luck. Play it in good health.
If not, save a grand and get the Gretsch. Fine instrument. Just look for a used one made in Korea and not a new one from China.

I don't think that there is a right or wrong way. Thin strings first is the traditional way to string it. The reverse is "The McGuinn" way.
Personally, I find that if the the "thick" string is before the "thin" string. the thin string tends to get lost. My buddy tunes it fat and thin. I'm a thin string first guy.
Whatever works for you. No rules in music.

There is. The nut has to be cut for the change.

Those J-45's are nice. HOWEVER, the one's from 2010's and on did not hold up well. Many Hummingbirds too have the pickguard peeling off..unusable frets from warped necks..etc. Gibson is a nightmare.

Those Martin's, and Taylors for masses, don't fair any better in time. Wait, how can my $99 Epiphone Dreadnaught still look and play like new? It doesn't fall apart, why? I also got a Yamaha that has been around forever.

That Fender high pressure laminate, BS, Jim Dandy, acoustics nonsense is terrible.

Yes, that 330/12 is mine.

China...junk..it is unavoidable, eventually something is going to be MIC'd.

12 strings bring back a bitter memory. I had a Guild 12 back in the early 70's that as a dumb kid, traded for an Ampeg B-42X................Hold me........
But since I have aquired some decent 12's. An Alverez 12 is a phenomenal guitar. I have since picked up an Ibenez and a Sigma. All REALLY decent acoustics. I'd LOVE a 360/12 but I settled on a Dano. It does the jangle pretty good

You know what I hate. Can't stand . Despise.
.
Clones, copies, rip offs. The music world is convoluted enough, with one lie holding up the next, this house of cards barely stands.
