1/2" Ampex 456 - any worth ?

Hi,

I emptied the attic of a deceased sound engineer. There was a number of nice things (NOS & used PER-528 pancakes, Perfectone EP6A with extras, Nagra IV accessories, etc.) and I took two 1/2" Ampex 456 tapes. One appears NOS, the other may have been used, but only little. Are those tapes worth something ? I have no use, but would consider eventually trading for some large Maxell XL35 for example (I still have some used 7" ones).

If the "new one is still wrapped and sealed, it could be in perfect shape. The other may be fine as well. Depends on how old they are. Spool 'em up and run them for a while and see if they shed...
