You need to just keep searching through music until you find some stuff that really strikes you musically or sonically, take the impression it leaves on you and work it with your own touch. no one can tell you what to sample, you gotta just keep looking, it takes time, it can be fun and frustrating.

I use wavlab for most stuff like this, but I have tons of other programs. I can run battery as a direct x in wavlab etc, don't know about VST, not that I'm too sure of tho. Yeah export to wav.'s like you do with cubase sounds like what i want to do. I don't care to make my drum loops in battery...

I use software... ok, I think what I meant was the low shelf and high shelf options. for some reason it just slipped me, but I still remember reading something about a certain type of EQ that does this better... sorry for wasting your time.

I knew the diagram would just make it more confusing. An EQ that can filter whatever frequencies you want out, but not making you have to completely cut them off. Instead of cutting off the highs completely you could lower them, like volume, but only for frequencies. without taking them...
