Hi guys,
I've used search. I've used Google. I've read everything I could find on Ethan Winer's site. I'm still a bit lost.
I have a fairly small, rectangular room to work with, I can place stuff almost anywhere within the room, but it needs a sofa bed (to keep the missus happy); my office...
It's nothing massive, but every time I switch off my monitors I hear a faint "P-" as the life recedes. Should I be turning down the volume before I turn them off? I've got an Adams A5 active pair if that information makes any difference...

Does anybody else ever use your kit as a way to just let your anger out, without giving a goddamn if you're playing anything musical or even technical? I'm just wondering if that's usual practice or not :D
Hey MIDI experts, I've been told you can program MIDI events to run effects like lighting, smoke machines, and even videos in time with a live performance.
I've been searching here and around a few sites from google, and I can't really find much information on the best place to start with this...
In this interview;

Andy Wallace gives me the impression that he slams his mixes into the wall because he likes the sound of it, not because the artists instruct him to do so. He does mention the fact that it helps keep control over your mix post-...
Right... We all know monitoring on the speakers from your home stereo is a bad idea, but what about using your monitors as playback for your laptop?
I can only afford one set of nice speakers, and I'd rather invest in a decent 2.1 monitor system. However, is there a chance my ears would get...

This is just a college project, the first thing I've let you all hear - let me know what you think.
It was done in a treated acoustic space using protools, I'm playing the drums, 3 of us worked on it all, and the sax was recorded a...
Hey all, I've just got footage back from a gig we did at Newcastle's 2000 seat City Hall. It's the first (and only) time I've played to an audience of that size, and I was trying really hard to make the kit sound good; hence my stupid concentration face
ANYWAY - I was playing along...
I have heard for a long while - Ray Charles' Live album. Any ideas how it sounds so good when it was recorded live in the 50s & early 60s would be greatly appreciated.
The bass drum especially sends shivers up my spine!
So, I've been on the forum for a while now, and I've been tinkering with recording - probably not as much as I should but it's keeping me interested.
I understand the idea of getting your best sound at source, I've got a pretty good idea of where instruments sit in the frequency range, what...
Am I missing something? I can program the MIDI fine, but once I add a sound to it I can't change it, which is a tad annoying. The on-board helps doesn't do its job properly either.
It's not really about drums or drumming, more about drummers.
I've noticed on this forum, reading both the Drums and Guitar/Bass threads, we seem to be much more helpful here!
Thoughts?
I'm using a MacBook, and just installed Parallels desktop to host a virtual machine for XP, so I can run my old version of Cubase.
My problem is, I can't get any sound from Cubase in Windows. iTunes works fine (except for it deleting my library, but that's another matter!), and as far as I can...
Or spacious and warm?
I've been listening to modern pop/rock/metal radio-ready stuff and comparing it to older stuff ie. the Beatles and some nice Dub, and I think the old stuff sounds so much nicer, without all the polished mastering...
What do people think?
I'm buying a Macbook to run my portable recording setup on this weekend, and currently own a PC.
My computer-savvy guitarist tells me I should wipe the harddrive and run Windows XP, to continue using all the programs I currently have on the IBm system.
Doesn't this defeat the point of having a...
Yay or Nay? Previous threads seem to be in favour but I think he's very good but seriously overrated.
Joey Jordison and Jojo Mayer are faster than him,
Steve Gadd and Bernard Purdie have more feel,
Stewart Copeland and Vinnie Colaiuta are much more innovative...
What am I missing about Peart...
I've used Halion before, but I've never had to set it up - just bought a copy and I can't get any sound out of it. The outputs all seem to be set right in the MIDI channel and I've got instruments loaded, but no sound...
I'm using Cubase SX3 at home, monitoring on home hi-fi and headphones for now.
All my mixes sound fine in Cubase then when i mix them to mp3 they sound really bassy and muffled, can anyone help?
