    Zoom H4n

I dropped it. About 3 feet, onto a hardwood floor, it was in it's plastic case. and now... nothing, no lights, no start when I slide the 'start' switch. I changed the batteries. I tried starting it with the wall plug. nothing. There is nothing loose sounding when shaken(gentley). There is...

    Zoom Recording

Picked up a Zoom H4n for recording shows at the FOH board. From a show last week at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista Arkansas. A very nice quiet crowd. I added some loudness maximizer to raise the volume, otherwise it's my room mix. Second time performing this song. Check out the tone and...

    reducing crowd noise

I recorded this on a Zoom H4n, at the FOH board. Getting Better Unfortunately, there were 300 people between the PA and the board. Anyone wanna take a stab at helping reduce the crowd noise? I have SoundForge 8 and Ozone4 at my disposal, if you have any settings to relay. Or just tips in...

    Show Tunes

One the advantages of playing "show" gigs is the audience (not bar crowd) actually LISTENS. You can play songs that sometimes you can't at a drinking gig. And I can get great recordings. Here's a couple songs from just a show. When I'm 64 Eleanore Rigby

    Converting .wav files question

I record on my Alesis HD24 in 48/24. I mix on my computer in the same form. Howover, when accepting tracks from the band mambers, they send them to me in 44/16. OK, no problem, I first conver to 44/24, then to 48/24. However, I've noticed that when mixing, when I lower volume on a track...

    Recording an Irish band

My niece is in a Irish band... a marching Irish band. They want me to record them this Saturday at a local Irish church. I have a couple of Rode NT5's, and a Yamaha MG12, into a Marantz CDR630 cd recorder. I figure I'll place the mic's about 6 feet high, about 15 feet in front of the...

    Need some ears on Something

Hi guys... I need some critical ears on Something . It's pretty close... but I've heard it so many times in the last day. I need some objective ears. I have a few tweaks in mind, but I don't know if others would hear it the same. So, if you have any ideas, lemme know. BTW, this is a live...

Do I really Need a sub with nearfields?

I'm using Event TR8's. My room (10'x12') is treated with 4 bass traps, some reflection and absorption panels. It's by no means a perfect room, but it's quite and still. Yet, sometimes, my mixes come up light on other sources. Do I really need to add a subwoofer, or do I just need to adjust my...

    Something Good...

I recorded this at a gig this spring, but first got around to mixing it a couple days ago. It never ceases to amaze me how well a live performance recording can be cleaned up. http://www.thebritins.com/InMyLife.mp3 Of course, it helps to get a nearly flawless performance. But this, for the...

    The Anti-Mister Moonlight

I was listening to Nakatira's Mister Moonlight(which is great), and it prompted me to search my archives for a different song with the same name. I recorded this about 18 months ago. It was one of the first ones I recorded with my Alesis HD24 and mixed in N-Tracks. This could not be more...

    Another Beatles cover

I think this one turned out quite well, but I'd like some opinions. Penny Lane Recorded from the direct outs of a Midas Venice to an Alesis HD24. No overdubs or retakes - a one take performance recording. Remixed using N-Tracks. Beefed up with Songe Forge and Ozone.

Dbx Driverack PA vs. Dbx 234XL

I don't really need all the stuff on the driverack, but quality-wise, how does the digital crossover compare to the analogue crossover. This is to drive QSC amps - 3402 PLX(subs), 2402 PLX(mids) and 2402 PLX(highs), in stereo 3 way mode.
