    Theme For an Unmade Film

While working on something else, I started playing a rhythmic two chord pattern. A sliding to B, staying there with staccato stabs, then repeating. Threw in a cheeky G, then an E and kept it on repeat. I knew I would forget it in 5 minutes so quickly put it down with a drumbeat on the BR-800...

    Zillionaires

This one was fully completed using the Boss BR-800 digital portastudio. No external effects apart from the in built ones, and the internal drum machine. Managed to to just keep it at 4 minutes, which is rare for me. Especially as I am a big fan of that elusive perfect 3 minute pop song...

    Satisfaction

Well, in my mind when this was written, it was intended to be a 90s shoe-gazing, reverb drenched, House of Love, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, type effort. Droney, moody, etc. But something happened in the recording, and it came out as a poppy 70s glam rock, art school song! A cross between Roxy...

New song: Get It Out. (Accidental ska song!)

Went a bit ska-like during the recording, totally unintentionally. Recorded with a Boss BR-800, Roland GR-55 for the guitar effects, bass and brass emulation, and a Roland ready strat. I have better lyrics for another verse, but it's long enough already.

New song: Force 10 From Nantgarw

Latest work in progress. Guitar effects through a Boss BR-800. Bass and strings converted from guitar through a GR55. Remix with boosted bass, re-recorded solo, etc. Nearly there! Hissy faked acoustic removed, octave run out added, volume lowered a few decibels. Latest version...

Mid 90s indie guitar US trio type number: Grace

Grateful for any thoughts on song structure, composition, amount of guitar parts, influences, mix, background harmonies etc. Aware of some bum vocal notes in there! Cheers

    Composition Challenge!

Just recording one of my old songs and my routine is to build from acoustics, looping drum beat, rhythm, bass, higher arpeggios, solos. I always get to a fairly full completed backing track before I even think of adding vocals. And it occurred to me, how much of the melody for this is in the...

    Original tune: The Honeymoon Flops

First recording of a song I wrote a while back but never got round to playing in my old band, or recording it. Pretty simple, only three chords, but I had fun experimenting with backing vocals on this one. Probably overdone it, but I was playing around. Made up some things on the spur of the...

    New Song: Midas Into Gold

Just dug out the BR-800 and am now recording all my old songs. Had a local band back in the nineties but we just didn't have the vocalist. I would have made a decent backing vocalist, but I wrote the songs and no-one else would sing, so I had to do it! For these demos, I just set a drum track...
