Latest work in progress. Guitar effects through a Boss BR-800. Bass and strings converted from guitar through a GR55.

Remix with boosted bass, re-recorded solo, etc. Nearly there!

Hissy faked acoustic removed, octave run out added, volume lowered a few decibels.

Latest version. Bass, and drums boosted.

Has that nostalgic Stone Roses vibe about it....was that what you were going for? It has that early 90s manchester sound anyhow

Loved it but frequency wise needs more bass, and 'warmth'..... it's quite sizzling. Or could just be my headphones....maybe someone else can verify.

Great song.

Stone Roses? I'll take that! You're right about the bass. I'll be working on that and other things. Listening on a soundbar brings out a few issues. Will try different headphones later and revisit it this week. Cheers, Frank.

Second version much better to my ears but at about 1:12 just after the snare hit there is a constant higher frequencies part on the hard left side that I’m having trouble with. Maybe pan it a bit closer to centre so it’s not so noticeable on the left.
Cheers

Yes, I think that's a shrill acoustic strum that I balanced with something else, then I removed the something else! Will have a tweak.

This was all mixed on the Boss Br-800 which inevitably means a bounce of 6 tracks to 1 while mixing, before mixing in more takes. Might move all takes to Reaper so I don't get stuck with something I later want to remove.

Hissy faked acoustic removed, discordant emulated strings at the beginning fixed, octave run out added, volume lowered a few decibels.

I really like the song. Great melody. Nice vocal performance. Love when the low end kicks in - nice.

Huge improvement in mix 3. Before that, the guitar was way too tinny. It sounds much better in mix 3. But low end kicking in is not as well in mix 3 as it was in mix2.

I think whatever time-based effects (delay/reverb/whatever) you have on the vocal are a bit heavy. After a while they grew on me. But I'm still not sure that it's the best way to treat them.

The bass guitar doesn't have much definition. Notes are kind of slurred together. I don't think it's a mix thing. I think it's a performance thing.

The snare sound is a bit wimpy for a song like this. I'd like something with a bit more crack to it. Ditto for the kick

Very detailed and specific points. Thank you.

Final (?) version now uploaded. Previous one had mistakenly used an earlier too distorted bass take. I'd re-recorded the bass yesterday and used the wrong one when remixing. Replaced and boosted it in the mix now. The notes stick to the root in the verse deliberately but the chorus has a bit of walking on it so hopefully it stands out more.

Vocals just used a standard BR-800 patch, no delay, but probably reverb. 4 or 5 vocal takes merged as one, with a low one in the background. That's probably the effect you're hearing.

Drum loop is a standard one but I've raised it in the mix now.

It's all a learning experience for me, and I'm grateful for all the comments.
