It Was So Bad I Thought I'd Remix It

Re: Rhythm guitar Yes, the rhythm guitar is the glue. I did mean for it to be dominant, but realized it could be obtrusive in the mix. I was planning on finding out if the mixing clinic thought the same. I guess you do, that's good. And yes mando is in there. Tricky, I found mixing a...

Check out this cat I'm working with...

I listened to "smile" Not the type of music I do, but here's what I heard. The piano needs something else, more presence inside the mix is what I felt it needed. The vocals are pretty tight, I'd stay mostly away from those. Maybe even bring them down a bit (It's just about illegal to say...

    Shame on Me

Hey Bill, Thanks for your critique of my song earlier today. Cool song yourself. Here's a few of my quack suggestions. -maybe a touch of reverb on either or both the vox and guitar. Just a touch though. It would especially help take the edge of those long vocal notes in the chorus...

    backing up your cakewalk files

How does everyone else in the homerecording universe back up their cakewalk sonar files? Do you save them as bundles and burn them or something else? I was plannning on backing up my files with my cd burner.

It Was So Bad I Thought I'd Remix It

Well, I've remixed the first song I posted on the clinic from nearly a month ago. I made some changes, retracked, remixed and followed ALOT of the suggestions I got here. So here she is, Hold on to Your Roots - Remix 1 http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2340&alid=-1 Also...

    Let's build a freakin FAQ!... Step 1...

How about, "What kind of mic should I get?, What program should I use for this or that?" Maybe a link to the home-recording.com website that details alot of the basics. Was helpful for me.

recording amp feedback in a quiet place

This is my pickle. I'm trying to get and record feedback from my fender guitar amp. However, since I live in an apartment complex, the noise is a HUGE problem. To this point I've been able to skate by using the amp out into my Delta 66, and having headphones connected to the amp so that it's...

    FX3 Soundstage

I've been using soundstage for a good bit as reverb for my vocals. I'm running into mixed results in the MP3 clinic though. It might just be my excessive use of it, which I admit to. But does anyone else feel strongly about what soundstage brings to the table? Or use it wisely? Since I'm a...

    A simple 2 track song

No, not live. Separate best takes. I pointed the condensor near the 12th fret of the guitar. But I was a distance away, and I didn't do extensive eq work on it. I suppose I'll try some other mic positions and maybe a second mic for ambiance. I suppose I could try a direct line out of my...

    A simple 2 track song

Very basic mic set-up. I ran both the guitars and vocals through the same MXL 1000 condensor. The signal went into the Delta Omni pre's and into Sonar where it was recorded. I added verb later. Probably not the best verb, I'll fool with it. I used the soundstage program in Sonar for it. I...

    A simple 2 track song

I know some of y'all do this kind of music. Any ideas to make it sound crisper? More intimate? Better? Andrew http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2340&alid=-1 "I Want You Back" is the song name

    2nd song

Thanks Kramer. I'd like to add more instrumentation. Unfortunately I can't play the drums yet, but maybe I can con someone into playing. btw - checked out your song "hypnotized" Very cool. Very ala Steve Miller Band.

    2nd song

I think I understand what your talking about. A lot of the brightness in guitar I hear in the mix is the 12 string I used pan to the right I believe. I still haven't found an effective way to tame that sucka. Y'all are right about the vocals too. It needs something that I can't put my finger...

    closet isolation booth?

Great idea about the foam eggshells. I never thought of that. I'm convinced now to give it a try. I just seems like a good, cheap solution to the apartment restricted musician. I tried a couple of forms where I drapped balnkets over me and the mic, but the results were average and the mojo...

    Your comments please

Hey man. I agree with the smiths or 80's alternative REM sound. This is, I believe both the strength and the weakness. Strength in the ability to pull it off, but limited by some of the eq's and levels there. I'd use a different reverb on the lead electric if possible. And how did you...

    2nd song

"harbor of lights" Alright, I put down the first song I had up here for awhile. I promise I'll post the remix when I can bare to start listening to it again. Here's my 2nd song "Harbor of Lights". http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2340&alid=-1 I plan on slipping in bass...

    Another T-Racks post!

I'll start with the presets sometimes and then tinker. I use the gentle master's now as a starting point, simply because it isn't overdone. It seems like everytime I used the brickwall or the heavy comp one's, I got poor feedback from listeners.
