Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a manual for the Tascam 464? I've tried everywhere with no luck. If not, which model would be closest.

Soundfonts and waves on a laptop....

I've read that using soundfonts on a laptop computer can be a hassle.Does anyone have any experience doing this? Thanks, Stevebol

Analog Vs Digital - A Good Read

Very interesting article. So do CD's make your fillings fall out?I wouldn't doubt it(if you're over 40-50 years old anyway).

    anyone know how to copywrite?

Thanks a lot guys. It's taken me a long time to get it together as far as format, looping, recording techniques,etc.... I don't think too many people would be interested in a Tambura Soundfont but if nothing else I'll have a nice practice tool. For the loops I'm making I'm going to analog tape...

    Proper way to demagnetize?

I just got a Tascam Demagnetizer. When doing this should you actually touch the heads of the tape deck or just come close? I also picked up a DBX 150X Noise Redux for my Akai R-R(71/2" per second,1/4" tape).I might want to try one one of the Dolby units too.Would type A be right for my setup?

where to find deals on tape machines?

There should be many places you can find one.Maybe even this sight.2 and 4 track machines seem to be more plentifull than 8 or 16 tracks.I would just keep searching by brand name, format, etc.... A good 8 or 16 that's in good shape isn't going to be cheap, but you never know.I paid about $320...

    Do I need Noise Reduction?

I guess 407 is slightly thinner than the 456 so it's probably a better match for my deck.I'll get a reel to check it out. Most of this noise was a result of having mics to far away.I really need to work on mic placement.Sounds MUCH better now. The noise redux in my wave editor works for the...

    Do I need Noise Reduction?

I thought the part about tape bias was missing from my manual which is a reprint but it's not.I'm still not clear on it though. The Tape Selector button say's-Out for low noise, and In for wide range.Any suggestions?

    Do I need Noise Reduction?

    Do I need Noise Reduction?

I'm using Quantegy 456 tape running at 71/2" per sec. on an akai 266 GX R to R.I have 2 Oktava Mc=012 mics going to a Rane DMS 22 stereo pre-amp then to the tape. From there I go to my soundcard at 16 bits,32Khz.Because the Tambura produces so many upper harmonics, recording at 32Khz seems to give...

    Do I need Noise Reduction?

I'm going into a pre-amp to a tape deck(Akai),then to my computer. There's quite a bit of tape hiss by the time the samples get to the wave editor. The instrument I'm sampling isn't very loud so I have to just about max everything.I've been using the noise reduction in my wave editor but I'm not...

    Is this humanly possible....

I didn't know where else to ask this but here goes..... Is it possible to take a hardware sequencer, maybe even a very old one,and modify it's memory somehow? What I mean is to take a number of very large digital samples on a soundcard, about 30 megs, and control the beginning and end loop points...

    Any Akai GX266ers out there?

Thanks TX. I'll check it out.

So what is it about analog that makes it sound so good?

It seems to me when the CD standard goes from 16/44 up to 24/96 we will enter a whole new world of fidelity.I'm only guessing that it will happen. That means recording at 32/192 or somewhere around there. I read somewhere,I think it was a website on broadcast engineering, that a 24/96 digital...

    Basic EQ question....

Thanks.I'll give it a try.I'm going to try putting the closer mic a little off-axis too.I didn't think of that before.

    Any Akai GX266ers out there?

I finally got my machine up and running in the last few days.I've had it for a while. One of the pots was scratchy so it took a while to take it apart and get some WD-40 on it,but it runs like a champ now(knock on wood).I don't want to get into doing much maintenance myself but what can I do...

    Basic EQ question....

I'm sampling a drone instrument and would like to bring out the low frequencies a bit or, bring down the highs.I want the sound to "sizzle" but not as much as it is.I suppose I should choose between doing it at the pre-amp(Rane) or later in my wave editor.I guess I'm asking how can I "warm up"...
