I have heard of people taping drum heads and such and I was wondering what effect does it have? Also what kind of tape?

I have 3 toms, 2 crash ,1 kick ,hi hat ,ride, snare basic kit How should I mic it with 2 Beta SM57A's a Samson S12 mic and a "PZM"?

My Mixer has LEFT and Right outputs. Do I have to use two track on the MR-8 and the combine them to make a stereo wav file? Or can I plug 1 cord into the headphone jack into the MR-8, will it be stereo or Mono?
