    Upgraded RAM, no change.

Cool, that's the sort of answer I like. Thanks.

    Upgraded RAM, no change.

Reading around, it looks like 1.7 GHz won't cut it when running a bunch of reverbs and such, regardless of RAM. Correct? How easy is it to upgrade the CPU on a VAIO laptop? It's times like this I dream of selling the lot and moving to the mountains.

    Upgraded RAM, no change.

I've just upgraded the RAM on my VAIO laptop from 512 to 1.5 and I'm finding no difference in Cubase SX. Before I was pushing the system to its limits with plugins and plenty of tracks, the VST performance meter seems to be up in the 90% region still. I know, I know - google it, search the...

Have I just stumbled across something?

Thought it would be something like that. Sounding great.

Have I just stumbled across something?

Yeah, don't worry - I'll always go with the stupidest of methods if it sounds right. Just interested in the process too.

Have I just stumbled across something?

Stick with me here, I'm not sure exactly what I've just done but I'll do my best to describe it. Basically I want to know if I've stumbled across an advanced and neat trick, and if it's widely used anyway. Or indeed, if it's totally pointless and is a long-winded way of doing something simple. I...

Didn't spot that. Don't feel so lonely on this board now. Have requested an add. (Whatever that means). Hello.

    Noisy monitors

Even with volume on zero and no audio cable plugged in and nothing else plugged into the local power source, it's still there. Actually, I've noticed something else tonight - there's a very quiet noise coming from the left speaker that sounds like a distant wind whistling. Not a steady whistle...

    Mono switch in cubase mixer

Maybe I'm missing your point here, but you know how to invert the phase of each track (including the master), yeah?

    Mono switch in cubase mixer

Yeah, it sucks. I'm sure there's a freeware one out there somewhere, but I found this mega-cheap plugin which just sits on your master channel - activate it to hear a mono mix. ....Hmm, can't find it, it's called Acidfanatic Stereo2mono, have a search I did, however, find this - haven't tried...

    Noisy monitors

Ok, took a speaker to another room, plugged it in and still some noise. (No audio cable attached). I should point out - it's really not all that loud, but I have to do a lot of stuff at pretty low volume because of a pain-in-the-ass neighbour, I'd just prefer if it wasn't there. Is it just to be...

    Noisy monitors

Word! I recently bought a pair of Alesis M1Active 520 monitors. Overall I'm really impressed with them, getting some great sound in my ears. The only problem is that they seem to produce a little too much noise, I wouldn't really describe it as "hiss" because it's more mid-rangey. You get me...

    Phase issues

Cool, thanks. As I say, I understand the physics of it - e.g. playing two identical waves while putting one out of phase will (or should) produce silence. A-level physics took care of that, but it's applying it to a recording situation that sometimes stumps me. Your reply = v. helpful.
