    My first

Hello all, I've been lurking and making the occasional comment. My comments have about the music, but bout mixing. That's because I have exactly one song I mixed, and I don't know what I'm doing My tune is at http://home.attbi.com/~waarwilf. About the song: It seems to sound crappier as an...

    An introduction

Hello, I've been away for a time, buying the gear I needed to do some recording, (apologies to Blue Bear, you were right about needing something better than a computer mic [duh!] and I was a bit moronic for not getting your point) :o reading stuff about recording, completing one of my tunes so...

    How cheap is cheap?

Does anyone know roughly how much the mark up is for synths and the like? I'm looking to pay around $500 US. Any insider tips would be welcome.

    Wet and dry?

I've seen references to "wet" and "dry" mixes, tracks. et al. Would anyone care to elaborate as to what the terms mean RE music recording? TIA Denis Without the bag

    Mixing classical guitar?

If I may be so bold, I would solicit tips, comments et.al. as to recording a classical guitar (played fingerstyle, for the most part)... I'm using Cakewalk Home Studio, Sound Forge 5, a cheap mic, and a 550 Mhz AMD system. Mostly I'm interested in how to make the guitar sound better by...

Working too many long hours with stereo gave me mono

I remember reading somewhere that recording stereo with cakewalk (audio) can cause problems, and that it's preferable to record mono. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? I sure don't... maybe I should cut down on my opium den time... TIA Denis

    Programming?

I've seen the word "programming" used in these forums. What does this mean in relation to recording and/or MIDI and/or synthesis? Thanks, Denis

Maybe a dryer sheet will help?

I'm running a cheesy mic into a SBLive! drive, recording acoustic guitar. Every time a note is played, there's a staticy scratchy noise that gets recorded too. It only occurs on playback. I've tried moving the mic around the room, sitting at different positions relative to the mic, turning...

Will dryer sheets get rid of static?

Nylon stings are givin' me dem ol' blues

Recording my classical guitar (nylon strings) has been driving me crazy. I've been using a DiMarzio contact pickup direct into a line input on my PC with dismal result. Eventually it dawned on me that I need a pre-amp to boost the signal at the very least. I considered, for about 4 minutes...

Wow, that's a great price? Uh... what is it?

I recently went up and down through Steinberg's site looking for info on Cubase Project Pack and found nothing other than a scant description. Is there any place I can go to get more info and perhaps compare to other products?

    Contact pickups and guitar

I know, I know... "contact pickups suck etc etc etc" Well, I'm fairly new to this game, and also fairly broke, so I have to go with what I've got. What I've got is a DiMarzio contact pickup that sticks on to the body of the instrument connected to a barely-shielded cable of about 8 feet in...
