Excellent, Greg. Although I was expecting you to smash out a few powerchords over the final section of Sunrise.
Do you think the low-end is flubby on these clips, like when I tried to use the resonance on my big amps??? The reason I ask is the resonance was pretty low in this clip, & it adds a ton of bottom if I need it...
The Ramones weren't big in Oz at any time but they were famous/infamous from It's Alive, (I actually have a copy of the movie they took the name from), on with 10,1000s of people who were into music.
Bill L, I have a not great Marshall 4 x 12 and it's NOT great - merely adequate. If I'd known or had the awareness of a resource such a Greg I'd have waited, saved a little more and have a killer cab.
no shit ..... that's one of the coolest gifts ever!China! My wife sent some pics of me to a friend of ours, and he had it custom made. It was a Christmas present, but every time I see him we forget to bring the presents, so I just got it the other day. Christmas in June! Pretty cool right? It fucking looks just like me!![]()
Here I made yall a video!
Thanks Jdude, I did have the drums up too loud, it was halfway intentional, but I admit I didn't mean to get 'em up that loud...Miner, I'm listening to this a couple of times now on a pair of Senns. I think it sounds pretty good actually.
The guitars sound good and heavy, but they do sound a little flat (not as in tuned flat) they just lack a little something that I can't put my finger on. They are a quite thick, but then I like that - you've got a bit of a Jerry Cantrell (think Degredation Trip) tone there.
The leads and the cleans are nice. How loud was that in the room? If you're managing that at comfortable listening volume you're doing well!
The drums seem to sound great, but they don't fit with the guitars very well. Lead drums!
I do think the low end is a little flubby. It's not a resonance thing IMO, it's a little amp with a ton of gain thing. It's just flat. You might be able to reverse-logic the amp/speaker choice to cheat the effect of amp headroom. If you're gonna use that much overdrive and low watt power section squash in the amp, then maybe try your stiffest speaker. Zakk Wylde does this. He uses something like 1200 watt cabs. Lol. Not that his tone is holy grail type stuff, but his idea is to not get any speaker breakup because he wants his tone to be heavy as shit at the amp but stay tight and articulate. Give it a try. The worst that can happen is it sounds like ass and you delete the track.
Oh yeah, bringing the power back up really makes that amp breathe better. All off those clips sound good to me. I particularly like the G12H and 65 the best.
It just goes to show....less power and less volume is never better.
BTW, there's a JCM800 50w in the Marshall forum for $850 shipped...
Haha, are you feeling GASsy? If noise is a concern for you now, that aint the amp for you.

I can attest to that. Even at 50W and through a 4x10 my JCM800 is a roaring beast, the likes of which I've never encountered before. That's a loud goddamn amp! Although I can't imagine that it's a different league of loudness than that 100W DSL through a 4x12 was. But the JCM just seems to like to be at least at 5 on the master volume.
I've often wondered how that DSL would keep up with an old Marshall, but I'd say it wouldn't be a problem.
