Still trying to wrap my head around mixing ITB. (3d or 4th mix) I'm open to any and all comments, suggestions. Even if it's the Gerg telling me it plain out sucks.

Still learning this mixing in Pro tools. Hell, analog is easy! You just twist knobs till it sounds good.:D:D

Great job. Performances are terrific, vocals epecially. Guitars sound really good too. If I were to nitpick, I'd say bring up the bass, and that distorted guitar on the right could come down and blend better. The guitar solo on the right and the one the left under the outro were a bit anti-climactic and not very focused, melodically, especially as the rhythm guitars are so good and to-the-point.

Good Organic mix. I can imagine a B3 organ on the choruses.

It's a great vocal performance, and love the rhythm guitars, it's a little dry though, I'd like to hear a bit more reverb on the snare, I don't agree about the lead guitar being 'anti climatic' though at all, it works for me. I think a bit of automation on the vocals and other elements would refine it further, and then some compression on the drum bus in parallel, and then some subtle compression/ tape saturation on the master bus to give it some colour would all help.

Thanks for the listen and comments. :)

Listening after I posted, I brought down the guitar on the right. I did this before you posted, so its refreshing to see we both heard the same thing. Glad to hear that the rhythm guitars work well. The chorus riff is basically shared by the bass and both guitars in an effort to get "bigness"
Sorry you're not digging the solo work. However, I like it and it's all as intended. :)

Thanks man! :)

Still playing with this one.

Back when this was written, I did a porta studio demo of the tune and "B3" was in there. Unfortunately it was a cheesy Casio B3. On this tune I'd love to add the keys, just need to work out how to get a real one tracked or at least a great a good simulation.

The vocal turned out not bad. There are some pitch issues as we're pushing the singer's range a bit on this tune. It is minor though, and I think adds a bit of character to it. This tune is me on production, engineering, guitars and bass. A vocalist and drummer. Just a three piece.

Funny you mentioned it being a bit dry. I've been consiously scaling back my verbs after being accused of using too much. :)
I've just not found the perfect balance yet, I guess.

Hmm, automation. That is a skill I don't have yet. On a console I would have done fader rides. Itb, I don't know how to do that stuff yet.

Parallel comp. Hmmmm, dont know how to do that yet either. :) For that matter, haven't figured out how to run a send for effects or returns yet as well. Any processing is inserted into the channel. Lots to learn about itb.

This was tracked to tape. When I mix it on the console, I have all that "goodness" and prefer that sound and the character added.
But I am trying to learn this itb stuff, so I'm giving the console a rest for now. Stepping out of my comfort zone, if you will.

Thanks so much for the listen and comments.
:D

those vocals are prob the most organic i heard for a while, great performance, great voice ..really is :)

dry mix, very dry .. like raw dry .. i reckon this track could kill if you sort it out .. imo i think you should leave daw play for another track n go back to what you know .. its tooooooo good to be experimenting on

Wow!

That's it.
Send me a PM and a basic track and I'll see If I can do some Leslie magic in some spots and send you the file. I see where it would fit nicely. :)

Thanks much. Yeah, he's a good singer. I like working with him.

As to protools, gotta learn it anyway. The good part is i can go back to analog at any time should the new technology be too daunting. :D

Glad you like the tune.

Hey, thanks man!

I'm not sure how this file swapping works.
First off this is in protools, and you're using reaper. Correct?

I have reaper too, but am unskilled in the kind of thing you're talking about.

nothing much from me, other than I thought the R guitar was a bit loud. :thumbs up:

Yup. Fixed it.:D
Played around last night and did a new hopefully "improved" mix.
Post it later.

uploaded a new mix. R guitar down a bit beefed up the bass and did some other shit.

I could imagine B3 all over this thing. It really would fit like a glove IMO. The right player could knock this out of the park. It's all tee'd up.

Nice performances, especially the vocals. Nice feel on the drum accents. Nice job accenting beats 1 and 4.
