Ray: Pretty cool dude, I think I like the 2nd clip a little better myself too, seems it's got more clarity in the guitars...Drums ain't terrible dude, IMO you need to raise the shells & leave the hh/oh's about like they are, might even help make the track seem more rockin' too....not that it isn't, just sayin'....

Tadpui: Sounds a little dark to me until you get the guitar's volume wound up....after that, it's pretty good....but I'm always getting really bright sounds in my clips too, so it's probably fine...:). How are you liking the new DSL??? I like my 100w version of it pretty damn good...

Tadpui - sounded good - the low frequency was a little tubby (or maybe just a lot of bassiness) on my system. I like the distortion

Thanks Bob & Minerman, I'm still trying to figure this amp out. It just takes me a while tondial in something that I like...plus my tastes change all the time so it's a moving target!

So far I love how tight the amp is. When I dig in or palm mute, it just cracks and chunks, I love it. Its a brighter amp than any of my others, which presents a challenge to me to get it clear but not gritty. So far its better at it than any of my other amps. My new room is too lively so that's complicating things.

Overall though, it's bad ass. I'm glad to have it at my disposal and I can't wait to record some of these guitar parts that I've spent years trying to make work with the wrong tools.

Antichef, thanks for the input. I totally agree, I've got some issues to work out with the bass.

do we talk about acoustic tone on this thread?

I thought I had mic position done and dusted like 8 years ago, but since then I've developed major doubts -- I attached two clips - same guitar and same mics in X-Y, but on clip 1 the mics are pointed down about 20 degrees south of the 14th fret, and in clip 2, they're pointed at the 14th fret. Which sounds better to you (or do they both suck)?

It's the green channel making it sound flubby Tadpui...it's just the nature of that amp dude....I usually turn my resonance knob completely off, & sometimes I use a clean boost (I use a Boss SD-1) to tighten the bottom end up...Still pretty good though, and you'll learn the amp more as you play through it too dude...IMHO, the new DSL is a kick-ass amp, while it doesn't have the vintage Marshall tones, it's still a great amp for rock tones...

I like the 2nd clip better antichef, seems like it's got more depth & bottom to it....I'm sure acoustic tones are cool here too, they are with me anyway...Again, the 2nd clip sounds a little better to me man...

Antichef,
Thanks for the feedback.
The Sanford Bass Tigntener is on the master buss.
It's set at:
OUTPUT - both (High & Low)
SLOPE - 6
CUT OFF Freq - 100Hz
Fully MONO
& BASS AMP - neutral position.

Here's an update based on your thoughts folks.
I've left the limiter & Sanford Bass thing ON and lifted the drums a little.
TONE wise I've swapped the relationships between the blended mics. It's 2/3 L'Grange Dynamic & 1/3 57 on each.
Is that brighter?
I've not added any additional EQ at this stage - hoping that the mics will have the answer - if not I'll move the mic positions for the next recording.
At present the 57 is directly facing the speaker about 1" in from the outer edge & the L'Grange is at right angles to the spot when dome & cone meet.

Antichef,
to me clip 2 sound less boomy & there fore is the one I'd go for.

Tapudi, def too boomy at 1st. Have you tried swapping PUs?
As Lt Bob mentioned it sounded good right near the end.

Thanks ray. Funny you should mention pickups...I've had a love/hate relationship with these. Its Gibson's hottest set of humbuckers, but far from their best sounding. I've been pining over some burstbuckers for a while now.

I'm on a tablet right now so no listening for me. I'll give a listen to the new tones tomorrow evening when I'm back in the studio.

any tone is fair game.

I like the second one best

I don't like that as well as the one I liked best before.

Lt. Bob,
That's the sort of response I was after.
Clear statement.
Thanks.

Wow, lots of fresh tones. Nice. :)

Okay let's see....
Ray - The second clip is the best to me. The guitars have better bite. I like the plucky bass tone too. And the general riff and feel of the song seems pretty cool. You've kicked it up a notch. Sounds like some power pop. I can drop some real drums on that if you want.

Tadpui - Your clip is pretty boomy, but it's not too bad. By itself it seems pretty boomy, but in a mix it might be just right. Be careful trying to get "finished" sounds in just a raw clip. Things change a lot when you start panning guitars around drums and bass. I'm not too familiar with your amp, but I know the "Classic" channel can be boomy on DSLs, and I know the resonance knob is a total bitch. It's mainly there for the lead channel. Try for that same tone using clean mode with the gain up.

antichef - clip 2 sounds better to me. Less boomy, more articulate.

I'm sorry ..... lol.
I know I didn't give much info .... I had been working on some music stuff and was crashing so I made it quick!
:D

Sweet, thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try tonight.

Lt Bob,
I was serious.
You gave detail with the earlier comment and referred back to it so it was poifekt!

Greg,
Thanks & yes please.
I'll render a version with the count int and no drums for you in the next hr - it's at 120bpm.
