How important is subject matter in songs ?

always funny when a guy has something to say about the craft, that his own songs show a basic understanding of structure, rhyme,
and hook, as well as knowing how to write music for the genre it's in.

Ive seen people on sports forums, who dont even like sports, ive seen people on political forums who dont have any opinions.
