Hi Folks,

Could do with a little advice/guidance on my setup..here is what i have

Roland HD1 Drums...they are hooked up to the two mic/inst inputs in the front of the FTP with a 3.5mm cable into the drums, thanks to jimmy69 for telling me what cable i needed.
On the FTP at the rear i have two RCA connectors in line input 1 & 2 going to my line in on my laptop

I can now stream my drums over the internet which is awesome.

My problem now is after i do a drum set i wanna speak via i microphone over the stream, do i need more equipment? or can i put a mic into one of the other ports at the rear of the FTP.

Thanks for all your help

There's no easy way to do this without more equipment if you want to keep the drums in stereo. If you don't need to have stereo drums, you could just run a single cable from the drums to the interface - this will save you an extra channel. A splitter cable (two sources going into the same interface channel) might work, but you'd be better off with a small mixer.

Can anyone recommend a small mixer, i think this is the best way to go :) thanks for all the advice up to now :)

This is about as cheap as you can get. A preamp for your mic, and two stereo line inputs. Put your Roland through one of them.

sorry may seem like a dumb question, but how do i connect the FTP to the mixer....and do i still plug my drums in the FTP and the mic in the mixer and jion them together, god im such a noob lmao, but im learning heaps :) you guys are awesome.

No dumb questions here. Well, unless you ask how effective egg cartons are for soundproofing. Then you may be flogged. lol

You would connect a microphone (not condenser type that needs phantom power) to the XLR jack on the far left. Your Roland out (with patch cable) to the two 1/4" inputs (LINE IN 2/3). Connect the LINE OUT L/R to the inputs of the FTP. Now all three signals will be sent to your interface for podcast. You would need to make sure your gain is set up correctly so that there is no peaking (clipping) anywhere along the input path. Just turn down channel one level if you don't want people to hear you grunt while you play drums. :)

Yay i ordered the mixer, got a real good deal too :) and the additional cables i needed...the microphone i ordered was a SPM-08 Vocal microphone by Skytec, hope that will work as i read in your post i dont need a condenser type :) thanks for all the info, ill let you know how i get on when the stuff arrives YAY.

Wow, that is probably the least expensive mic I have ever seen! :) I'm sure it will work for your intentions.

Let me know how it all works out for you man.

Peace,

Jimmy
