Man, that thing is HUGE! If it were 1/2-inch or larger, I'd be all over it, and the shipping 'cross the pond be damned!

It was designed to run either 1/4" or 1/2" by changing the headblock (and presumably guides). If you could get some suitable heads made for it it should work.

The big problem is that you're going to have real trouble finding schematics for it because it didn't enter production.

...apparently the machine could sense whether it had a 1/4" or 1/2" block and set the tension automatically. So you'd probably have to reverse-engineer that signalling...

Man, oh, MAN. Anybody have a line on the 1/2" parts? PLEASE let me know asap.

I have purchased that exact machine from the seller in 2010 and collected four more units in the years. I’m very passionate with the S20 and Saturn.
In the meantime, I’ve acquired deep knowledge of the known technical issues of the S20 and solved them. It’s a fantastic recorder, extremely good sounding and super versatile. I’ve attached a picture of a 1/2” machine which I acquired from a French seller about six years ago.

Thank you. There is also a group on the S20 if you search on Facebook. Almost all of the SM team is there and there are pictures and videos of the special Perspex demo unit.
