Hey guys,

Here is a quick thing I did for kicks in about an hour last night. Jus' fer fun.
All first takes, and a 10 minute mix. :D (not that a drum machine needs s econd take...hee hee)

Peace!

Thanks santiu!
The "guitar" is the reason I did this little ditty. My friend built a Telecaster, and brought it over. To get a good idea what it sounded like, I suggested recording something simple. He engineered, I played, and I think it's cool for a simple little thing, and also kind of typical of the sound I'm getting, and that's why I posted it here.

Thanks again for the listen!

i'm not going to lie. this mix is beyond my critique.

but...the lead vocal could either use a cut or a boost in the mid-highs.

i say either because it would be good if it were eq'd "properly"

BUT it would also be cool if it had that old bluesy...telephone eq on it.

really good man.

Thanks Cello!

That's the Chris Lord-Alge "Rock Vox" preset for my Waves "SSL" channel strip. It's very aggressve, and you're right, it's really not appropriate. I will change it!

Do you mind spilling the beans on the details of the guitar, and the amp you used (and anything between the guitar and the amp)? it sounds phenomenal to me.

Sure!
The body is one piece solid ash. The neck was custom made by USA custom guitars. www.usacustomguitars.com They are the best, IMO. The neck is maple, with a maple board. It has super jumbo 6100 stainless steel frets. The neck pup, featured on this recording, is one of these http://store.guitarfetish.com/alfa10kovteb.html
The guitar has a modern Gotoh six saddle bridge, and Sperzel tuners, and the "grease bucket" tone mod.

The amp was a '68 Marshall Plexi model, from a $99 thing I bought called the Line 6 Gearbox Silver. It's basically a DI box that you connect to the computer via USB, and then the computing power comes from the CPU of the puter. It can also be used as a VST plug in a VST host, but this was not used that way. After recording I put Waves IRl reverb on it, and may have eq'd and compressed a bit with the SSL channel strip... but I'm not sure about that.
If you have never built a guitar, I highly recommend it. If you have basic woodworking skills, you can do it. I took mine to a pro luthier for the final nut-cut and setup. It's very rewarding. I built one last year, and you can see everything I used here http://www.box.net/shared/static/a65sjib8sj.mht

Peace!

Awesome tune! Some great riffs in there. Truly rocking out, man! I like the vocals alot too. Some damn good emotions in there!!! F***ing Thursdays!!!!

:)

wow...this is...umm...really good.

I wasn't even going to listen to this as I've heard this song done so many times, and I'm kind of tired of the blues, but I'm glad I did. Your playing and tone remind me of Roy Buchanon...although maybe not as "out there" as he was.

I'm not wild about the drums...but it is drum machine and the fact that you whipped this together in an hour just makes it all the more amazing.

Excellent playing Eyema, I could almost see the smoke coming off the fretboard on that Tele after you were done. Seriously good stuff....

Very well done all around-soulful vocals and soloing. I had used a Strat for my main guitar for years but Teles have won me over for the last several years-they cut though a live mix in a different way than a Strat can. Teles are fun to modify also.
I hear some Buchanan and a bit of Danny Gatton both in the leads-you rocked it out!

You have quite an imagination, Ido! Thanks for the listen.

Thanks for the listen Heatmiser! I'd rather have a real drummer, of course. What do you think of that $99 amp modeling software?

Thanks Anfontan. I played Strat's for years too. In 2001, I quit smoking, and in 6 months saved enough from not smoking to buy a new guitar. I bought a a Fender Nashville Deluxe Power Tele. That model has a piezo pickup built into the bridge, and that was the reason I choose that guitar. I'm so glad that I did. It's been my main ax ever since. Well... I should say it was my main ax until I built the new one last year. That was is as close as it comes to my dream guitar.

Peace!

Cool man,

Thanks for the listen, Chili!

I've always loved this song, but oddly enough I've never heard a recording of it by anyone. I learned it from other musicians, much like most of the songs I know. Strange, huh?

Peace!

For some reason that site is restricted from my work, so I emailed myself the link to my home email. I'll listen tonight.
