New Song (general idea) Your Comments Welcome...

Yeah maybe don't over do the full band too much, but I could see a staggered dynamic build being really intense, sort of rock ballad style. Maybe hold off on the bass until "And in my dreams", and then hold off on the drums until "Then I woke up". You know, now that I listened to it again, I...

    Highdroplain - Not The End

The mix sounds kinda cramped. It sounds like everything is straight down the middle and competing with everything else. The guitar is tiny, and the bass sounds, well, not good. I'm really not very experienced with recording bass, but try doing something different.

New Song (general idea) Your Comments Welcome...

Ack man, has your wife heard this? ;) I like the song a lot though, especially the structure and songwriting, I felt like it went somewhere rather than just repeating itself over and over. Good musicianship as well. A bass track would really complete this song.

    Good Guys List

Would just like to return the good word on Sklathill, I bought my first nice piece of studio equipment from him, a MOTU 2408 MKII in excellent condition.

    Keeping sound OUT

Thanks for your comments everyone. Creating an actual physical wall definitely isn't an option, as this is university property and they will hardly even let us bring in our own furniture. Somehow I think they might frown upon me erecting an entire new wall :D. Thanks though Rick, that's good...

    Keeping sound OUT

Hah, yeah I already tried that. It just so happens that due to the extreme ridiculousness of a housing policy, I would have to pay 50% of the remainder of the year if I leave at any point during. If I left right now, that would amount to about $3800. Thus, my desperate quest to make due with...

    Keeping sound OUT

My issue is actually more concerned with my current living condition than studio recording quality, although I do record in my current residence. My problem is this. I am currently attending college and am living in an apartment style dormitory. My roommates are everything you would expect from...

Micing classic guitar: Shure SM57 or what?

I would second (or I guess third) the SM81. I asked this exact same question about 4 weeks ago, and I was recommended the SM81. It totally exceeded my expectations. My guitar sounds fantastic, and I'm plugging the thing into a $70 behringer mixer. I haven't had much other experience with using...

    Nylon Strings on a Budget

Actually there probably will be other instruments/vocals fairly often, so I'd probably be looking for something that would be able to blend in decently enough with a full mix. I had thought about the 4040, I'll look into it, thanks.

    Nylon Strings on a Budget

I've been looking to buy a mic to use for recording my Cordoba 40R classical guitar, and haven't been able to find much posted here about mics that sound good on this type of instrument. The only recommendation I've found that is in my price range is the SP C4's by Richard. The mic I buy will...

    Aussie Asking for thoughts

Hm, I'm not sure how you recorded this, but I just threw up one sm57 in the middle of my band's last rehearsal and it sounded infinitely better. Like what has already been said, being able to hear the song with at least some degree of accuracy will yield more relevant critiques.

    2songs

All recording issues aside, the performance was tight and I really got into the song. I've never actually heard any Fear Factory, but your sound is hard to classify into any genre I'm familliar with, and I really dig that. If you ever get any other songs recorded be sure to post 'em.

    Electronica, anyone?

Good songs, I particularly liked "The First". I would say for pretty much all of the vocals to tone down the chorus/effects, especially on "The First". The intros to "Rolling Down the Hill" and "I've Got a Gun" both reminded me of something I'd hear in a TV commercial. You ever think about...

"No Love" FIrst crack at mixing this

Teacher, Of everything I've heard of yours, this is the catchiest, most professional sounding song I've seen yet. Very well done. I agree that the snare could have a little more umph.

    Live Sound Resources?

Does anyone know of any forums dedicated to live sound techniques, gear, etc or any other related resources? I'm going to be doing some gigging this summer and want to gear up for it (ouch, that was bad).

Materials best for sound reduction (less echo, more studioish sound)

Ahh, yes. The illusive studioish sound! It plagues us all. Damn it! Damn it to hell!

Delta 44 Breakout Box connecting to SB Live?

I have the option to purchase a Delta 44 breakout box and connecting cable for $30, and am wondering if I can connect it to something without the Delta 44 soundcard. Would it connect to the input on a SB Live card? Or is there some other generic soundcard I could get that would work? I also have...

    it's showtime, fags

Hah! This is great. Damn professional, in a very not mainstream type of way. Which, I like. I'd like to hear more.

2 rides in a setup! NO crash! Sound good?

Err, I think other cymbals should be higher up on your list. Later down the line you can always add in another ride. But with two rides and nothing else you'd be pretty limited.
