Ok, I've read the SOS review on both machines, here is what I wish to accomplish. I would like to be able to record my band at practice and burn a cd on the spot. I want to be able to mic drums, run them through a separate mixer, then into the recorder on a separate track. Direct in or miccing guitar/bass/vocals. I want the ability to record 8 or more tracks simultaneously, plus, the reason I picked the 2 in the subject is because I will use the machine solo style in the future, or when I'm not practicing with the band, so I like having the bass backing, and drums without purchasing a separate rythm or drum machine. Reading both reviews, they both have lots of good points, although, the Zoom is more affordable. Any thoughts on the comparison between the 2? Keeping in mind, it's mainly for recording practices and such. I already have a Korg PXR4 as a scratchpad, but it is limiting. Therefore the addition of drums/bass is important to me.

What's your opinions on THESE TWO models...I know the Yammy and Tascams are better, but they really are not the SAME types of machines with similar features, they are more for getting the tracks down. I'm looking for more of the getting the tracks down, PLUS, kind of like a mini-studio.

As of now, I'm leaning heavily towards the Zoom 1608, at 799.00 it's not a bad value, plus you can purchase an aftermarket cdr/cdrw for around 35.00.

Thanks.
RJ.
