Having just purchased a Zoom 1044 I am amazed at the amount of hum on the unbalanced and Guitar/Bass input. When recording with a mic through the XLR inputs there is no noise but as soon as I plug in a guitar etc. there's a very loud hum. I contacted Zoom via email but they haven't replied.

Action taken so far.

Various instruments have been tried through the inputs.

Several leads have been tried.

It has been tried in several locations in my home (with and without other items (including lights) switched on and off)

It has been tried at a friends home (5 miles away!)

I have tried inputting the guitar via the XLR - including through a DI box (earth line engaged and lifted)

plus swearing and threatening!

but none have any effect - I can't believe it's me at fault but would like any comments / ideas before I return it to the shop....

Anyone else had this problem - I am based in the UK.....

cheers

Your Hum

Is the hum coming through on the monitors or your head phones? Is the hum being recorded as well? Maybe your mic isn't right for you to record guitars on?!

Hum is on both headphones and monitors - and is also on the display - problem is with direct input of instrument via Guitra/Bass input or unbalanced (both channels) inputs also XLR input of an instrument via adapter plugs or di box (with or without earth line lift).

The problem doesn't appear with a microphone input via either balanced or unbalanced inputs!

The only thing I can put it down to is a lack of shielding on the unit and that to 1044 is picking up induced hum from other electrical units in the area.

cheers for the thought - Pete
