ok after reaing a billion posts, and a couple of recomendations from a good friend I have decided to buy this stuff..

Behringer B2031 Truth Active Studio Monitor Speakers Pair
Digidesign Mbox USB Pro Tools LE Audio Interface for Macintosh and Windows
Yamaha MG16/6FX 16 Input 4 Bus Mixer w/Dual EFX
Global Audio by CAD HM1 3 Piece Microphone and Stand Package with Cables

That is for starters, please let me know what you all think of this set up it will be used on my P4 2.8ghz, 512mbRAM, the sound stuff is from the motherboard right now but I am looking into sound cards.

Now to start up what cords would I need to get? the mics come with cables and the mbox comes with a usb cable, but for the mixer what would I need to say hook up 1 to 2 instruments at a time and have it all set up and ready to record?

Thanks for any tips you all can give me

You only need 2 tracks recording at once? Ok.. easy. You'll want to get whatever cables you need to get the instruments to the mixer. Then you could run one cable from your Aux 1 send and One cable from your Aux 2 send to the M-Box. This way you could send multiple channels to the Aux sends (ie. drums could all be sent to aux 1). So really you would only need 2 cables after you get all the instruments to the board!

All that stuff without a decent soundcard seems a bit of a waste to me. Look into that first. The audiophile 2496 is never a bad choice.
Good luck.

btw after accidentally double posting you can always edit your post, and then delete it there.. ;)

Hello people: the MBox is a USB sound interface ... you don't need a soundcard with that.. it gives you 2 analog inputs and outputs, and if you have an external S/PDIF converter (a la TC Electornics M300 or an ART Di/o) you have another 2 ins and outs.

If you are going to buy an MBox, then you don't need to look at soundcards: you just got one.

As for the Yamaha mixer, it has 6 buses, and inserts on the first 8 XLR inputs, so you don't need to use the aux sends. That mixer will give you 16 distinct sends: 8 from inserts, 6 from busses, and two from the aux sends.

If you add a TC Electronics M300 ($200) then you can run two outputs from teh mixer to the M300, and then the s/pdif out of the M300 to the s/pdif input of the MBox, and you have a 4-input recording system.

cstockdale THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

That is what I have been trying to find out. I was kinda wondering about that whole USB interface thing.

Any other tips/info/opinions would still be greatly appreicated though
