You know what could be interesting... or even fun?

A mixing contest, of sorts. Forgive me if this has been suggested or done in the past.

Something short, like 30 seconds perhaps, and a relatively small number of tracks... a dozen at the most (including all drum tracks).

Someone submit the tracks, everyone interested download them and mix in their favorite way. Adding "new" tracks would be taboo, but not copying of tracks (or deleting of tracks... whatever) for effects. So long as only the original tracks were used, everything goes.

Agree on some standard bitrate for .mp3 conversion (and possible a codec as well, to keep things as level as possible).

I think this would prove extremely interesting, and perhaps useful as well - comparing mixes done by different members, on different software, and perhaps even comparing analog vs. digital mixes, software vs. outboard effects.

And a chance for sweetnubs to put his mouth where his... errrm...., whatever. :)

Dunno, just a friendly "this is what I got" would serve the purpose, but maybe some would want a full blown voting thing as well?

Just a thought. Like I said... don't cane me if this was done just a few weeks ago. :D

I think it would be fun. Who has some tracks laying around, and the space to host them.

Matty

If this thing picks up

Then I have tracks but not space.

Ive got a mix that would be great for this but nowhere to host them

Hmm... I had been running a dedicated server/webserver with DSL... enough bandwidth to get the job done so long as everyone didn't hit it at once. Unfortunately, it is also serving a dual role now as my tracking machine (not mixing) since it is by far the quiter of my machines (being in a separate server closet). That in itself wouldn't cause a problem, but when I installed my M-audio drivers and n-Track demo, it has become an unstable freezing SOB. Haven't sorted out the cause yet.

I think this would be really interesting, but perhaps people don't have the spare time to do this "for fun." Maybe after Christmas when things losen up a bit there will be more interest.

shailat has some drums up that would be perfect
