I've heard of people still swearing by these in their studios. Or are they really just swearing AT them? I see these from time to time going quite cheaply in stores in and around Tokyo, but never in stores that can offer a decent audition, i.e., in a realistic space with good ancilliary equipment and source.

I developed an intense dislike for Yamaha speakers when every single studio I worked in between 1985 and 1997 had the dreaded NS-10m's on the meter bridge. Or somewhere. And they expected me to use the wretched things!

You don't say how little you can pick up a pair of these for, but if it's anywhere close to the $1900 list price there are lots of other options out there. Look at Adam and Genelec, or maybe KRK or even Mackie.

The NS1000 were replaced by the NS1000M which were slightly smaller. IMHO they were one of the most revealing speakers EVER made and even today would make superb monitors in the right hands. Because they are an old design condition would be all important. Do NOT confuse these with the NS10's, we are talking pure Rolls Royce with the NS1000's.

My only regret is that I never bought a pair of these or the Acoustic Research LST's another God given classic.

P.S. If you do not agree with me thats fine, it just means your ears are fuc*ed. :D

Not the NS10

I hope ss scientist isn't going to pull my teeth when I say I actually own (and use!) a pair of NS10s in the home studio. But it's an area of the studio that I guess is time for an upgrade, hence the post.

Yamaha 1000s go for between 600 and 700 dollars around here. Is this kind of money better spent on a more recent monitor?

Cheers for the reply posts, guys.
