Hello...

I am hooking up my rack mount compressor so that it inputs into
my Boss BR-1600cd Recording console.

I have the option of Balanced or Unbalanced.

How should I hook it up, and why does it give me these 2 options ?

(I have both kinds of cables, so I'm ready for whatever).

Matt

xlr balanced are best but there really isnt a difference when recording on an analog device so typically recording to tapes unbalanced, digital id go with balanced. and also do you record to adobe or the boss. not to knock hardware recorders but you really have so much more control with software.

I just got the Boss, but I will mostly be using it.

I will still use Adobe when I need to actually use my mouse
on a wave. (I will always need easy mouse based cut and paste).

So....

In this case I am hooking the compressor up to the boss, which is digital.

So I should used Balanaced XLR 's ?

go with the best, if you can

heres the thing....

the BALANCED signal (whether it is fed thru XLR connectors, or 1/4" TRS connectors) is less likely to have interference induced into the cord.

So, if you have the choice and the cables to do so, by all means run the balanced signal thru the system.

Now, seriously if you use an unbalanced cord (t/s to t/s) you probably really couldn't tell the difference in the length of one cord in the studio.

You are given the choice because some devices support a balanced input, and some don't.
