Cobradenim, he was supporting everything you just said. What's with the harsh words? ...sarcasm... ...?...

It's kind of like Gibson guitars. Gibson still makes decent guitars but, come on, $2000 for a Les Paul standard is obsurd. These guitars are mass produced anyway and probably only cost $300 to produce in the first place.

Hmmm. Actually, just the wood alone for a Les Paul is gonna cost more than $300. Just the flamed maple cap for the body is going to be over $100. In an interview with one of the guys who runs the Gibson custom shop, he mentioned that he's spent up to $3000 on just a piece of wood for a guitar. That comes from the 24 page article about the historic reissues from tonequest newsletter - read that article and you will see why those historic reissues - especially the artist signature ones are going to cost what they are...........

Well I have a new TSL100 1960A 4x12 and all my guitars (60s re-issue LP, PRS CE24, Jap strat, Calif. Strat) sound fucking fantastic through it !

Sure it was expensive but isn't that just life, I don't regret a penny of it !

I'm not talking about the custom shop guitars, I'm talking about the standard les pauls. in 1992, a new Les Paul Standard in a sunburst was $1200.

If you save 2 cents on a capacitor and make 10,000 amps that equals $200

If you save 2 cents on a capacitor and make 10,000 amps that equals $200
In the neverending and relentless pursuit for corporate profit gains something has to give (quality and longevity)
Brand is everything these days
You can build a kettle and the fact that it leaks is irrelevant to the fact that it has a trusted brand and it is the cheapest on the market
My amp is a mk 2b messa boogie
after a good service with new valves and tuneup I get 2 good hard years from it
It loves a good thrashing!!

Who cares if the price of a new Marshall went up?

The last good Marshall was the JCM800. Anyone that wants a new Marshall isn't buying with their ears, or brain. I mean, 600 bucks for an older JCM800 and 1300 bucks for a DSL? Yeah--*THAT's* a hard decision to make.

If you are going with Marshall, you get a JCM800, JTM45, JMP or 'Plexi Lead.. period. For 1300 bucks I'd save my money and get a VHT if I had to have something new... or better yet, an AD30.

Any thoughts on the 80's Jubilee series?

Decent, but too many solid state components. Only popular because of Slash's use of them on AFD. JCM800 nukes 'em.

Ahh ok.. the reason I asked is because I've got a 2550 stack in storage that's mint condition. (Original tubes still fresh.. clear factory plastic still across the front panel..not a tear or scratch on any cabs!) Curious if there might be some buzz about a new draw on that one so I could sell it.

JCM800's are common enough though. I've got a JCM800 50watt combo (red tolex) that I use on occasion. Good blue collar amp.

Marshalls are great amps. I mean they are like the ford of cars in the guitar world, they are everywhere, great and reliable! But that dont mean they aint good. And thats bullsh@te about not getting a diferent sound from different guitars through a marshall. I played my s series Ibanez through the amp (DSL50 with 1960 cab) and also an american fender strat and the sound was sooooooo different it was quite scary.

Well, they just didn't raise retail by $200. Street price is up $200. I was going to by a DLS 401 in the next couple of weeks but not now. I'll just by used JCM 800.

Marshall = Overpricing.. Cheaper to get Modded Marshall???? yes

DO NOT BOTHER buying a Marshall Amp new.
The key is to buy a modified Marshall from a company that modifies them.. Such as Splawn and VooDoo amps. These guys don't mess around, they are serious. The mods they do to these marshalls make Mesa Boogie and Bogner shit their little panties. And for less than the price of a Marshall new? yeah? Pretty much!

Hear the soundclips for yourself from Splawn modifications!

My favorite clip is the "Todd Dugan" clip right above the Splawn Marshall mod pic. (Changing the chasis and logo is an option).

Also check out www.voodooamps.com, They mod more amps than you can think of! Here's their soundclips http://www.voodooamps.com/soundclips.html
They can take something that costs less than 200 used and make the expensive stuff bow before it. See for yourself. :D

You use bad words.

Sorry if I offended you I meant to say "crap"...

p.s. My uncle plays through a Mesa Boogie 400+ bass amp and it sounds like ass.. excuse me.. "butt".

You poor person.
You must be having a rough puberty.
Go ahead, lash out if it makes it easier for you.

That was wonderful... possibly THE most wonderful thing you have ever said.

i agree about the lack of greatness of new marshalls. I dont see the point of buying one at all - i made the mistake already, but i bought it used and was thankfully able to resell it at almost no loss.

for the 800 bucks you could have a much better amp. I went the DIY route and now have a classic amp for about $250.

blackface fenders and jcm800's are pretty cheap used.

I challenge you to find a decent blackface Fender that is cheap.
