Uhm, your right. I think I missed the part where you don't track to the unit. It seems that you still need a digital recorder/computer to track.
But, still, according to this description:

other than you can't track on it, it seems that you could pretty much do the same on the computer... Unless I'm missing something major here - like maybe the possibility to create a custom synthesizer (sound module) with nearly unlimited amount of sounds/samples
and send external sound through the same box...
