If Sweetwater does not carry a certan brand of equipment it is probably because it is not worth buying in the first place.

Or, more likely, it's not worth them selling it, because they don't make enough $$. If I were a saleman I would want to sell the expensive stuff too.

Inexpensive doesn't always mean "not good." I've made some excellent recordings with my 32 channel digital mixing board, complete with ADAT outputs, seperate parametric EQ, delay and compressors on each channel all with their individual settings, and an amazing array of other features for $1000. Oh, and I got it on sale at MF for $595. To get the type of sound and features of my Behringer with a Yammy board, I'd have to spend thousands more.

Ya I have a Peavey 32 channell Mixer that only cost 1100 bucks but but like I said in one of my above posts I do not use the word inexpensive to referr to crap gear.

and like I also said, Sweetwater carrys good equipment that is not expensive

the point I was trying to make is sweetwater trys tostay away from selling brands of equipment that has a reputation for being crap gear because they dont want reputation of being a retailer that sells junk that is obvious from their excellent customer service.
I have not once bought anything from sweetwater that I did not get a call from a CS Rep making sure that I was completley satisfied even with a 7 dollar guitar cord and I always get candy for my sweet tooth

Sweetwater is just all around better retailer to deal with opposed to the others.
thats all I am saying.

ya you got it right the first time... I meant cheap as in low quality

I use the term inexpensive to discribe obtainable for those of us having limited discretionary $$.:D and it just so happens I am one of those people:cool:
and I am sorry but Ithink anyone who puts samson in the same category as Behringer are way off because Samson makes goood affordable equipment IMO that is the reason Sweetwater carries the brand otherwise they would not sell it.
Sweetwater does not sell Nady equipment either so that should tell you something about that brand too.

Yes Sweetwater is definately my Online music store of choice for most of my online purchases however on ocasion I do use MF when I am in a pinch.

I agree completely, I definitely put Samson in the classification of inexpensive gear, but not cheap. I own two Samson C-Valve pres and I think they are great! I just know there are some gear snobs out there lurking who seem to think if the gear doesn't carry certain logos and have a reputation for being used "the big studios" (what/whoever they are), it isn't worth having.
I've always followed the philosophy that some of the greatest recordings came about by the artist and producer making the maximum use of the equipment available, such as the Beatles working with Sir George Martin on the Rubber Soul-Revolver-Sgt. Pepper trilogy.

The equipment available was pretty darn good, no? :D

I've used and still use budget gear. Some of it gets the job done, some not so much. Haven't used any Samson gear, but perhaps it all has it's place - and no - not in the garbage.

Not everything they sell is expensive or high-end. Not sure why they don't carry certain brands though.

I've gotten phone calls thanking me for ordering when I purchased a little package of rack screws, and a cheap little adapter.

Oh Man dont get me started on the gear snobs:mad:
Yep this place is definately loaded down with gear snobs for sure. I think the name of the forum is over their head but once you wade through all of the eletist Gear snobs this place has a lot of useful information and it does have its share of good down to earth knowledgable folks with good advice to share and who know the difference between good afordable equipment and cheap junk that is not worth buying.

What really kills me is with most of these gear snobs, they dont have any useful information to give, it seems to me the only reasonfor their existance is to come here is to remind everyone else how much better their equipment is compaired to what the rest of us have:rolleyes:

But ya you don't have to have the most expensive brand on the market to achieve professional results out of a garage converted into a home music studio.

Ok I am finished ranting about the gear snobs now:D:cool::p

i recently moved to the USA,and went to guitar center to buy my first Martin acoustic and case,,a few leads,,guitar stand etc

and it didnt even occur to me to try and haggle
as id heard they wouldnt even entertain that

the assistant was nice enough and all

but when he got me a cheap mandolin off the wall,i couldnt hear well enough to tune it properly in the store

so when i handed it back to him and told him that,i thought he mightve offered to find me a queit place or tune it for me,,but no luck there

id love to have other stores to go to,but sadly theres nuthin around here.

when i took 2 leads back that broke,
the guy tryin to refund me was a moron,,
couldnt work the register, and was goofin around with his 14 sandwich eatin muthafucka /emolephant of a buddy ,
as my wife and i stood and waited over 10 mins for the refund.

we also recently made a late trip to GC to buy a set of M-Audio monitors id saw on GC.com for $199.99

when i rushed in and saw them ,i asked to hear them
but the gusy said they werent hooked up

so i considered buying them anyway
but when i asked how much including tax,,he said something like $325

so i said no,,they are $199 on the website

so he came back and said no,,they only stocked the CUSTOM version

which is of course alotta shite

but i left anyway,as they were closing in 15 mins
after having gone well out of our way to make a special trip there

no attempt whatsoever to sell me anything else, and when i said did that mean id have to order them online instead,,
he didnt even sy they could get them in the store for me and i could pick em up
no customer service whatsoever in fact
so much for that
so i ended up buyin them on MF,,for $199
with free foam pads and afree clock no less~!

they better not be shite like the ones i just sent back!

Hi. They don't carry certain brands because their profit margin on those brands is too low. This information is coming from a former employee (my friend).

I'm in NYC. The Guitar Center here is beyond pathetic. 99% of the people there literally know less than I knew about gear when I was 14 years old (I'm 39 now). It's scary that we are going to them to buy gear. They carry a lot of cheap junk there.

I find that place depressing.

It's all in what you are looking for and the staff at your particular GC. The south Austin shop is not that bad; there's a couple of fairly knowledgeable guys there that I deal with when I have a question, otherwise I know what I want and it's just a matter of if they've got it. If they do, the price is usually pretty good and I can get it now. I ordered my Bongo 5 HHP bass through them and they gave me as good a deal as I could have gotten on line. They got the order right, but if they hadn't, I'd have had an easier time straightening it out than if I had had to deal with a web shop, shipping, etc.

YMMV.

I've been in a GC store twice. Once in Saint Louis when I was down there for staff meetings for my employer and needed some entertainment in the evening. I picked up copies of "Guitar Player" and "Acoustic Guitar".
The kid behind the counter looked disdainfully at my purchase and said with a sneer, "Is that all you're going to buy?"

I looked at him and said, "No, your attitude tells me I shouldn't buy anything from the likes of you." And I walked out leaving the magazines on the counter.

Stopped at store in Colorado Springs while on vacation two years ago because I needed a set of strings. Different town--same snotty attitude.
Companies like that don't deserve to be in business.

I'm from St. Louis. Tell me which kid and I'll go almost buy a couple magazines from 'im too...

Seriously though, you're right. Considering that they are in fact the Walmart of music stores (big, cheap and dominant) I wonder why so many of the employees have a Saks Fifth Avenue Attitude?

Man.... WhiteStrat, it is like that at Mc Donalds or anyplace else anymore:( this younger generation has not been taught hospitality or courtesy and basically need a beat down performed on their sorry ass! because they sure was'nt taught any manners from their sorry ass parents:mad:

so then its our generations fault for raising us badly! It's vacant nuturing of our parental units that caused us to be so ill-mannered and half-witted. (Mind you I'm one that knows my P's & Q's) We have escaped the fault of our illwill!

Funny you should say that--because my first job ever (at 16!) was McDonalds! My wife, too. In fact that's where we met. Needless to say, of all the bad customer service examples, Mickey D's is the hardest one for us, because we knew when it was different.

We worked for a local franchise, and I gather they were always stricter than the corporate stores, but still...For us it was like being in the army. We'd be officially disciplined for not smiling. The only appropriate response to any order (even if it was "drop on your belly and clean under the fry vat") was "thank you!"

Ahhh...those were the days. Seriously though--we got a lot of our work ethic right there at that first job, and we're both glad for it.

You're right. Something went wrong. But not with all--you said you mind your Ps & Qs, and how old are you?

My children are 22 & 17 and they're far more like I was at that age than the expected "ill-mannered and half-witted." (Great phrase, by the way?)

What do you mean by vacant nurturing? Do you mean a lack of nurturing (i.e. there was none?), or do you mean nurturing that's vacant anything else (i.e. nurturting: yes; responsibility or accountability: no)?

I figure most GC's are about the same..you got about half the staff dufusses, nearly half holier than thou, i know everything and 1 or 2 guys that really know what they're doing. Find the latter and stick with 'em.

The worst is when two of your categories overlap: when the dufusses are holier than thou! It's hard for me to buy anything from someone like that...

You're right. the holier than thou's are usually dufuuses. The closest GC to me is about 50 miles, so I haven't been in awhile. Last time I walked up to the recording area and said to the guy "I'd like to buy the Line 6 Toneport UX-2". He fumbled around and came back with a Guitar Port:rolleyes:. Yes he was a holier than thou dufus.
