They are owned by the same company but operate seperately

Sematics. The profits all go into the same pocket, so they should work together rather than undercut each other. Not that I'm complaining, you understand... ;^)

Yeah, I understand and agree with you! GC is also pushing GC.com. Not really sure why they created GC.com instead of just using Musicians Friend.

Is it still true that GC will undercut any price found at MF?

Matt

they are EXACTLY the same site, just with a different logo. same with gianelli or whatever its called.

i bought something from gc.com and got a MF receipt.

btw..NEVER buy from gc.com. they charge sales tax. MF has the same thing but without the tax.

it depends on what state you live in. in NY, everything you buy gets online gets charged sales tax or soon will. It's a new law.

it depends if there is a GC in your state or not.

yep, if you have a GC in your state you will be charged sales tax when buying from them online,
when buying online just use Sweetwater:D better service and better equipment, always free shipping with sweetwatter and no sales tax except for the states that require sales tax for online purchases.
if you are wanting to purchase cheap instruments you will need to use MF, music123 or wwbw because sweetwater don't sell cheap indtruments.

Please clarify your use of the term "cheap." If you mean low-quality, you are correct--Sweetwater doesn't sell cheap stuff. If by "cheap" you mean obtainable for those of us having limited discretionary $$, you are wrong. Sweetwater sells many of the same brands carried by GC/MF/M123: Gibson, Fender, Epiphone, Digitech, Boss, Korg, Tascam, Alesis, and Yamaha to name a few--and at the same prices as GC/MF/M123 for the same models. Actually, when you factor in the fact that Sweetwater ships for free and throws in a handful of free candy, you may come out ahead on the purchase.:D
You won't find them selling Behringer stuff at Sweetwater, but they do sell Samson and some may put that in the same league as Behringer

ya you got it right the first time... I meant cheap as in low quality

I use the term inexpensive to discribe obtainable for those of us having limited discretionary $$.:D and it just so happens I am one of those people:cool:
and I am sorry but Ithink anyone who puts samson in the same category as Behringer are way off because Samson makes goood affordable equipment IMO that is the reason Sweetwater carries the brand otherwise they would not sell it.
Sweetwater does not sell Nady equipment either so that should tell you something about that brand too.
If Sweetwater does not carry a certan brand of equipment it is probably because it is not worth buying in the first place.
Yes Sweetwater is definately my Online music store of choice for most of my online purchases however on ocasion I do use MF when I am in a pinch.

I love GC. Where else can you finger bang a 4000 dollar guitar through a 2000 dollar amp and then just leave it leaning against the wall?

Keep it mind if you buy anything over $100 and pay cash and return
it, they will only issue you a check!,Ed

Um, who pays cash for anything?

Not promoting running up goobs of credit debt or anything, but if I buy something on my Amex and then pay it off that next pay period, I don't pay financing, I get cash back or rewards points, and more to the point I get buyer protection so if something comes up and GC tries to screw me, I can simply call up Amex and they'll refund me.

Hell, often times just the threat of "I'm sorry, that's not a satisfactory solution, I'll take it up with American Express" is enough to get someone to back down in a hurry. Thankfully I haven't had to do this much, but my roommate on the other hand...

I use cash for all my musicial purchases. When my Wife asks
" Isn't that new " I just say I always had that:)

God...how many of us are like that? I used to think I was the only one, but since I've been hanging around here I've found it's such a common refrain.

I've learned lots of tricks though: always look at and extoll the virtues of the most expensive one for a while first so that when you buy a reasonably priced one, you look good. I recently bought a lap steel and was drooling over vintage ones priced from 800 to 1300--when I bought one for less than 200 (including shipping) I looked like a hero! Cool thing is I refurbed it and now like it better than any of the others I saw.

It also helps if she has a vice, too. For every gear package I get, she gets a package with seed or bulbs or something for the garden. Nevermind that her packages average about $10 each and mine...well...nevermind.

hint: get the kids interested in music/recording -- safety/strength in numbers

I did that. Bought my daugther a cool Yammy digital piano. She got married & moved out. Upside: my wife saw how much I loved playing it, and said to my daughter (who dutifully relayed this to me) "Now Dad's gonna have to buy another piano." So at least her expectations are set! :D

And thanks to my son I have--oops, I mean WE have--four bass guitars!
