Doesn't it just figure...what was supposed to be an evening of work for an upcoming session--setting mics, testing and tracking tones, turned into a late-night wank fest. It's no masterpiece. Hell, by most standards, it's not even a song. But for what it's worth, it's my contribution to the noise of the night...

P.S. How do I get the Soundcloud player to appear in my post like I've seen around here (as opposed to the link that I managed to figure out)?

there is a soundcloud button in the top right of the post feed :D....

some pretty nice playing here but i think the distorted guitar is too loud.

and it sounds like the kick drum is clipping?

The electric has that Satriani feel. The sounds are cool but I think I hear the kick pumping (maybe at the mastering phase?). Very cool tunage.

Very nice guitar tones. Only fault I can find is the kick, sounds sort of mushy?

put the link between [ soundcloud] and [ /soundcloud] (without the spaces)

not really my scene but i thought the playing was good mate...

Id agree the kick needs tightened up but i thought the guit tones sounded appropriate and the levels seemed good overall

very 80's movie soundtrack....hope thats not offensive, just what it reminds me of

Thanks for the heads up on the Soundcloud. Yeah, I'm playing with it right now--fixing the kick and what not. And the 80's movie soundtrack comment is not offensive at all. That's my groove--so I'm not surprised that's what comes out of me!

Thanks for the listen and the comments!

Thanks for the input gang! I retracked in daylight--I was able to crank up the amp a bit and get more energy from volume, and less pure preamp gain. The lead tone is still pretty much the same, but after resting with it for a while, I think I played it better.

I also completely retracked the intro. I did something more musical (I hope) but still just as unrelated (I'm sure). And now my little mic placement test has a name: Voices in the Night.

I think it sounds okay. Is there a bass in this? I'm not really hearing one but it seems to hold it's own anyway. I think the kick is fine, just make it a little louder. You don't want some clicky metal type kick sound for something like this. I'm not at all a fan of that 80's delay wank tone, but if that's the sound you're after, you nailed it. Very true to 80's guitar god stuff. I actually prefer the intro. Nice playing there. The lead stuff does nothing for me but make me want the song to end sooner. You've got a weird skip or edit at 4:15. Sounds pretty good overall.

Cool, thanks dude!

Yeah, there's a bass guitar in there--but I'm a bit of simpleton on the ol' 4 string, so it's basically following the the chords of the rhythm guitar along w/the kick drum. In other words, it's adding some bottom end, but there's nothing to make it stand out.

And as far as that 80's delay wank tone goes...I wouldn't say it's "what I'm after." I'd say it's just what I play. So I'm not trying to capture some 80's thing--I'm trying to get my tone/style on tape, you know what I mean? Based on your comments, I guess I succeeded! And thanks for the props on the intro--that was a bit of a last minute idea on my part, but you're right--it could be the best thing in there. I've got to develop that part a bit.

And the skip at 4:15--what I douche I am! I nudged the last few seconds when I cut it to add the fadeout. I found the problem and fixed it in the master, but I won't repost it just for that. Thanks for the heads up.

its pumping quite hard. the compression on the masterbus seems to be reason. and the reason the compression doesn't work is, that the bassdrum is way too low & consuming all the energy of the song. try to revise the sound of the bassdrum and it should be much better.
nice playing btw :)
