I've got a problem I hope someone may be able to assist with. The church that I run sound for bought 8 AT 7300 receivers and ATW-7373 handheld mics that we use to amplify a group of praise singers. (This was over my objections. I want the building fixed to sound good, not band-aid it with equipment that adds to the nightmare... Ahem, sorry; had to rant)
I have had intermittant problems with them ever since we got them. In particular, I have 2 mics which get pops, hissing, growling and dropouts to the point where I have to mute them. The problem doesn't start right away. It usually cranks up about 10 minutes after the service starts. I set all of them up according to the Frequency Compatibility Chart on AT's site. That helped with other problems that I had but not with this one. Addtionally, I have researched, read, reread, and read again the great info out on the AT site. From what I read it sounds like I could be experiencing intermodulation interference but I haven't had any luck rectifying the problem if that's what it is. After service tonight I turned the mics on that we had been using today and took them to the same area that the singers sit. I was able to get the one mic that we had been having problems with to start acting up but not to the extent that it had been. And not bad enough to isolate the problem. It's getting maddening! BTW, it shouldn't be TV interference at least according to the AT website.
Something that I am wondering about that may be part of the problem is that the church rented out the steeple to a cell phone company and we have a cell tower up there now. Could this cause the type of problems that I am experiencing? The cell towers were installed about a month before we got the wireless system. (If so, why is it always limited to the same 2 mics?)
Any ideas anyone? (Sorry to be long. Working the help desk at a software company has taught me to give as much detail as possible about the problem.)
